A big congratulations to all the new Fellow Members, Members, and Associate Members who joined the HKIE at the New Members’ Reception on 6 June!

It was wonderful to see over 550 new members and guests start this exciting new journey together. A special shout-out to everyone who took part in the first-ever Pledge Ceremony, promising to keep up the high standards of our profession.

導賞團將由擁有超過 60 年前線經驗的工程技術顧問鄭德森先生帶領。行程由屯門碼頭集合，沿湖景路行至屯門河西岸，沿途實地觀看與講解多項關鍵工程技術與現場項目：
· 環保靜聲壓閘板機應用。
· 預製件拼裝梁橋結構。
· 跨河橋躉樁基礎——未來兩組 V 型柱之施工。
· 河上樁柱駁以及河堤伸延水上的臨時工作臺工程。

Jointly co-organised by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and HKIE Civil Division.
Rubber-modified asphalt offers both performance and environmental benefits through recycling of waste tires and extended pavement service life. This seminar will highlight: · The global warming potential impacts of rubberized asphalt compared to conventional materials. · Opportunities to reduce life-cycle emissions through partial replacement of virgin binders. · Improvements in pavement durability across asphalt mixtures, chip seals, and stress-absorbing membrane interlayers. · Evaluating durable and sustainable transportation infrastructure based on long-term life-cycle benefits rather than initial construction emissions.

🚩 Technical Visit Recap: Yuen Long South First Phase Development & RTBM Technology 🚩
✨ Over 60 members from the HKIE Civil and Geotechnical Divisions joined us last Saturday for a highly successful joint technical visit to Yuen Long South (YLS). As a key development within the Northern Metropolis, YLS NDA is essential for meeting Hong Kong’s long-term housing demands.
🔍 The visit centered on the reconstruction of the Tong Yan San Tsuen Interchange. A major highlight was the application of a Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine (RTBM) to construct a pedestrian and cyclist subway beneath the busy Yuen Long Highway (YLH). This advanced technology allowed for precise excavation without the need for open cutting, ensuring zero disturbance to the heavy traffic above.
🛠️ Participants had the exclusive opportunity to observe sophisticated RTBM excavation methods firsthand. The project serves as a prime example of infrastructure-led development, showcasing how innovative engineering practices can overcome complex urban challenges while enhancing safety and efficiency in tunneling.
🏠Besides RTBM visit, participants stood a chance for visiting the new Community Liaison Centre of the Hung Shui Kiu / Ha Tsuen New Development Area. Learning the comprehensive planning for the Northern Metropolis, participants could understand the Government’s strong commitment to innovation and its proactive adoption of advanced technologies to drive sustainable urban development.

🚩 技術參觀回顧：元朗南第一期發展工程及矩形隧道鑽挖機技術 🚩
✨ 上週六，超過 60 名來自 HKIE 土木分部及岩土分部的會員參與了是次聯合技術參觀，實地考察元朗南（YLS）發展項目。元朗南新發展區作為北部都會區的核心項目之一，對滿足本港中長期房屋需求至關重要。
🔍 是次參觀重點在於唐人新村交匯處的重建工程。亮點在於項目採用了矩形隧道鑽挖機 (RTBM) 技術，在交通繁忙的元朗公路 (YLH) 下方建造行人及單車隧道。這項尖端技術避免了開挖掘路，在不影響地面路面使用者的情況下完成施工，展現了卓越的工程精確度。
🛠️ 會員們獲得了難得的機會，親身觀察 RTBM 鑽挖法及創新工程實踐。此項目充分體現了「基建先行」的發展原則，展示了如何透過創新的隧道工程技術解決複雜的城市建設難題，同時提升施工安全性與效率。

The 47th Annual General Meeting of the HKIE Civil Division was successfully held on 28 April 2026 at the HKIE Headquarters. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our Chairman, ✨Ir Johnson Lee✨, for his exceptional leadership throughout the session, and to all our ✨Committee Members✨ for their tireless hard work and dedication over the past year.
❤️It is through your collective commitment that the Division continues to thrive and serve our members with excellence.

🎤 We were also honoured to have Ir Tony YAU, JP, Director of Highways, as our distinguished speaker for the Annual Seminar on "Engineering the Next Generation of HK Transport Infrastructure." His insightful presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the strategic development of Hong Kong’s future transport backbone. Key highlights included:
* Northern Metropolis Highways and the Northern Link
* Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link
* Route 11 and the Smart and Green Mass Transit System
* The implementation of the new Hong Kong Railway Standard

【同行五十載 ‧ 專業匯首都：HKIE 土木分部北京考察回顧】

適逢學會成立 50 周年，HKIE早前舉辦了「高端人才北京交流團」及「分部主席考察團」，雲集業界先驅。HKIE Civil Division亦非常榮幸能深度參與其中，與各界代表共赴首都交流，見證香港工程界的專業實力。

是次行程中，本分部主席 Johnson Lee 聯同多位委員（包括 David, Gloria, Tim, Felix, Zoe, Joseph 及 Leo，排名不分先後）一同出席，先後拜訪國家商務部及北京國家科技傳播中心，探討香港工程師如何把握國家「走出去」的機遇，融入發展大局。

特別感謝本分部委員 Dolphin 及 Sarita 的周詳策劃與精心安排，令行程圓滿結束。我們將繼續秉持專業，促進兩地技術交流，為土木工程業界開拓更多機遇！
