🥕🥬 Organic September: Healthy SOIL, Tasty CROPS 🥬🥕
Healthy soil = healthier, tastier crops! Rich in microbes and organic matter, living soil improves nutrient cycling, strengthens plants, and enhances flavour naturally.
Industrial farming, with its heavy use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, strips soil of minerals—the very building blocks of flavour compounds. By contrast, regenerative methods such as mulching, composting, cover crops, and crop rotation restore soil life, build organic matter, and help plants access a wider spectrum of micronutrients that boost both nutrition and taste.
Nutrient density can be measured through Brix (sugars + minerals) and chlorophyll (green pigment from nitrogen). Higher levels mean stronger photosynthesis, more nutrients, and richer flavours.
With thriving soil, crops grow stronger, resist pests and disease, and develop fuller flavour. This is why promoting organic regenerative food is so important. It not only nourishes us better, but also supports farming practices that restore ecosystems, rebuild soil health, and secure the future of our food. 🌍💚
