上週一（2026年5月4日），我們帶領港大學生到台北參觀 AppWorks。AppWorks 是亞洲領先的科技初創加速器，並定期在台北、星加坡及雅加達舉辦 Demo Day 演說日。分析師 Mr. Bill Hsu 接待了我們，並向我們介紹AppWorks的加速器計劃。學生們向 Bill 及來自國立臺灣大學的實習生分享了兩個社會創新項目，獲得了寶貴的意見與回饋。

這次參觀提醒了我們，在演說項目時，必須因應聽眾的背景與需求調整表達方式。我們有時會假設聽眾「已經了解」我們所針對的問題，因為在經過數月甚至數年的研究或實踐後，往往對這些議題過於投入，以為相關社群面對的問題人人皆知。事實上，準確地定義社會問題才是最具挑戰性的一環。Bill 亦與我們分享，作為風險投資者，他們的團隊最看重的是能夠證實產品或解決方案已具市場牽引力 (traction) 的具體數據。

AppWorks 於2010年成立，至今已建立了逾600家初創企業的網絡，並支持了逾2000名創辦人。正如 Bill 所言，意念 (ideas) 本身「並不重要」，因為優秀的創辦人總能因應情況靈活轉向。這是我們在這次考察之旅中將會反覆從不同講者口中聽到的重要啟示。我們非常感謝這次參觀的機會，期待日後能與更多 AppWorks 團隊及其加速的創辦人交流！

Last Monday (4 May 2026), we visited AppWorks in Taipei with HKU students. AppWorks is a leading tech startup accelerator in Asia and hosts demo days in Taipei, Singapore and Jakarta. Mr. Bill Hsu met us and introduced AppWorks’ accelerator programme to us. Our students presented two social innovation projects to Bill and interns from National Taiwan University, who gave us valuable feedback.

The visit reminded us that we must always tailor our presentations to suit our audience. We sometimes assume the audience “already knows” the issues we aim to tackle, because we are too absorbed in them after researching or working on them for months or years. In fact, the problem definition is the most challenging part. Bill shared with us that as venture capitalists, their team would primarily be looking for numbers to show traction for product/solution.

Started in 2010, AppWorks Accelerator has built a network of more than 600 startups and supported more than 2000 founders. As Bill shared with us, ideas “don’t matter” because good founders always pivot. This is an important lesson that we will hear multiple times from speakers during this study trip. We were grateful for the opportunity to visit and we hope to meet more founders in the AppWorks community in future!

Poetry & Wine with Dr. Behzad
欣賞最偉大波斯詩人 Rumi, Khayyam, Hafez 的作品

繼於 ISV Lab「邊界之上」系列首場活動中分享伊朗的歷史及伊朗人民對和平的渴求，Nasiri 博士希望繼續向香港公眾分享伊朗的故事與文化。他將邀請來自不同領域的嘉賓主講，從多個維度展現波斯歷史、文化與傳統的豐富面貌，並與各方夥伴合作，為公眾帶來親身體驗波斯文化的機會。

在波斯文化系列的第一場活動中，Nasiri 博士將帶領在場觀眾乘上魔毯，遨遊波斯詩歌的浩瀚海洋。他將與大家分享波斯歷史上最偉大詩人—魯米、海亞姆與哈菲茲—的雋永名作。參加者將學習在波斯文化背景中理解詩作，並以波斯語朗誦詩句，同時享用美酒與輕食。本次活動將於旅行及世界主題複合空間渴喝舉行。

Join Dr. Behzad Nasiri in appreciating poems by the greatest Persian poets - Rumi, Khayyam and Hafez, and learn to recite Farsi poetry lines!

Further to the inaugural event of ISV Lab's Transcending Boundaries series where Dr. Nasiri shared the history of Iran and people's yearning for peace, he hopes to carry on sharing stories and culture of Iran with the Hong Kong public. Dr. Nasiri will invite guest speakers in various disciplines to showcase the many facets of Persian history, culture and heritage, and collaborate with various partners in offering Persian cultural experiences.

In the first event of the Persian Culture series, Dr. Nasiri will take the audience onto a magic carpet ride in the ocean of Persian poetry. He will share beautiful works by the greatest poets in Persian history - Rumi, Khayam and Hafez. Participants will learn to interpret the works in a Persian cultural context and recite poetry lines in Farsi, while enjoying refreshments and wine. The event will be held at Thirsty HK, a travel-themed cafe, bookstore and event space.

在3月30日舉行的ISV Lab「邊界之上」系列首場活動中，Nasiri 博士為我們介紹了伊朗多元的地理面貌、多種族的文化遺產、歷代王朝的興衰更替，以及1979年伊斯蘭共和國的誕生與其後與美國之間的種種衝突。Nasiri 博士亦回應現場觀眾的熱烈提問，分享了他身為一名離鄉七年的伊朗人的感受與看法，以及伊朗人民在這場戰爭中所承受的焦慮不安、無力感及其他複雜情緒。

軍事行動秒速推進，然而背後的衝突積怨卻已醞釀了數十年之久。這場戰爭提醒了我們：對來自不同背景的人們抱持相互理解與尊重，是締造和平珍貴而不可或缺的基石—儘管這塊基石有時顯得如此脆弱。

In the inaugural event of ISV Lab’s Transcending Boundaries Series held on 30 March 2026, Dr. Behzad Nasiri shared an overview of Iran’s diverse landscape, multi-cultural heritage, the rise and fall of dynasties and eventually the birth of the Islamic Republic in 1979 and the ensuing conflicts with the United States. In response to questions raised by a lively audience, Dr. Nasiri also shared his viewpoints and feelings as an Iranian away from home for 7 years, and anxiety, frustrations and other difficult emotions Iranians are going through in this war.

Military actions proceed at lightning speed, however the underlying conflicts have taken decades to build up. The current war reminds us that mutual understanding and respect for people from diverse backgrounds is the precious, though sometimes fragile, basis upon which peace can be possible.

In the coming months, Dr. Nasiri will offer more talks with guest speakers in various disciplines that showcase the many facets of Persian history, culture and heritage. He will also collaborate with various partners in offering Persian cultural experiences. Follow on Instagram and stay tuned for updates!

ISV Lab 正與兩位香港大學社會科學學士（政治學與法學）及法學士課程三年級生 Kaena 與 Wing 合作，共同開發一個專為香港SEN（特殊教育需要）兒童家長而設的電子平台 — 《SEN聲》（Actually Answered）。該平台旨在支援家長，包括討論區、訓練課程資訊和學習日誌等。

為了讓這個平台能真正切合SEN家長的實際需要，我們誠邀各位SEN家長花幾分鐘時間填寫問卷。您的寶貴意見將直接協助我們優化平台設計，讓更多SEN家庭受惠。本問卷所收集的資料僅用於研究及平台開發用途。

ISV Lab is collaborating with Kaena and Wing, Year 3 students in the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Politics & Law) and Bachelor of Laws programme at the University of Hong Kong, to develop a digital platform for parents of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Hong Kong — "SEN 聲" (Actually Answered). The platform aims to support parents of SEN children and includes discussion forum, training directory and learning journal.

To ensure Actually Answered truly meets the needs of SEN parents, we invite parents to take a few minutes to complete this survey. Your valuable feedback will directly help us improve the platform and benefit more SEN families. All data collected will be used solely for research and platform development purposes.

In February 2026, Dr. Winnie Fung, CEDAR Fund’s Chief Executive, travelled to Afghanistan to visit local partners. In the 3rd event of ISV Lab’s Transcending Boundaries series, Dr. Fung will share her experience and observations, as well as her journey in integral mission and transformational development.

Dr. Fung is a development economist with a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University and a MA in Biblical Studies from Wheaton College. Her expertise is in food security, famine and malnutrition, smallholder farming and agricultural policies, as well as anti-human trafficking. Her passion lies in poverty alleviation, integral mission, and faith-based relief and development. She has been involved in integral mission and transformational development for more than 15 years.

Dr. Fung’s work has brought her to various parts of the world. She has written and published on famine in China, malaria eradication in India, and anti-human trafficking efforts and business-as-mission initiatives in South Asia. She has served as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Human Development Report Office (HDRO). She has travelled to and supervised projects in countries including Nicaragua, Peru, Cambodia, and the Philippines, on issues pertaining to microfinance, fair trade, food security, and gender-based violence.

Under the watchful gaze of the world, the ceasefire in Iran announced by Trump two weeks ago ends today (April 22). The Middle East remains engulfed in war, with little hope for peace anytime near. To the east of Iran lies Afghanistan – another Islamic nation that has been ravaged by war and plunged into a deep humanitarian crisis. Yet little about Afghanistan has been covered in international news that focus primarily on oil pricing.

Since the Taliban ended a 20-year war and returned to power in 2021, Afghanistan's economy has collapsed and its people are struggling to survive. The Taliban regime has severely curtailed women's freedoms, banning them from secondary and higher education, prohibiting them from working in public institutions, and forbidding them from travelling without a male relative — effectively erasing women from public life altogether.

In face of these immense challenges, a Hong Kong-based charitable organisation — CEDAR Fund — has been supporting civilian needs through various ministries over the past years. CEDAR Fund is an independent relief and development organisation founded in 1991. Upholding the principle of helping the poor ‘From church, Through church’, CEDAR Fund carries out relief and development projects in areas of need around the world.

Dr. Winnie Fung, CEDAR Fund’s Chief Executive and development economist, travelled to Afghanistan to visit local partners earlier this year. She gained first-hand understanding of the relief initiatives on the ground and listened to the voices of civilians struggling against adversity. In the 3rd event of ISV Lab’s Transcending Boundaries series, Dr. Fung will share her experience and observations, as well as her journey in integral mission and transformational development.

2026年初，施達基金會總幹事、發展經濟學家馮韻兒博士前赴阿富汗，探訪當地夥伴，實地了解事工推行情況，並傾聽在困境中掙扎的平民心聲。馮博士將擔任ISV Lab「邊界之上」系列第三場活動的主講嘉賓，分享所見所聞，以及她參與整全使命和轉型發展的經歷。

馮博士是一位發展經濟學家，是哈佛大學商業經濟學博士和惠頓大學聖經研究碩士。她的研究包括糧食安全和饑荒、小農耕作和農業政策，以及反人口販賣。她熱衷於扶貧、推動整全使命及以信仰為本的人道救援與社區發展。她參與整全使命和轉型發展已超過15 年。

馮博士曾於不同國家及地區進行研究工作。她曾就中國饑荒、印度瘧疾控制、南亞反人口販賣事工和營商宣教進行研究及發表學術文章。她曾於聯合國開發計劃署人類發展報告辦公室擔任顧問。她曾前往尼加拉瓜、秘魯、柬埔寨和菲律賓等國家，督導有關微型金融、公平貿易、糧食安全和性別暴力等議題的項目。
