Join us for an inspiring evening celebrating the values, partnerships, and people driving humanitarian and philanthropic impact — through the French lens.

At a time when Asia faces mounting geopolitical tensions and accelerating climate crises, the need for sustained, collaborative humanitarian engagement has never been more urgent. On 27 October 2025, Fondation de France Asia will host “Humanitarian and Philanthropy – the French Way”, an evening devoted to exploring the long-term presence and distinctive approach of French-based organisations working alongside the most vulnerable communities across the region.

Co-organised with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao and held in partnership with the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, this special event will bring together field experts representing three organisations whose missions embody the French humanitarian spirit of empathy, partnership, and perseverance.

The discussion will feature Vincent Prosper, Country Director of Enfants d’Asie in Laos; Florence Vanderborght, General Coordinator for Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World) in the Philippines; and Gilles Nouzies, Regional Director for Southeast Asia of Handicap International – Humanity & Inclusion, whose work spans Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Together, these distinguished speakers will share firsthand insights into their programmes in education, health, protection, and inclusion, reflecting on how the French humanitarian model continues to adapt to evolving realities across Asia. The session will culminate in a round-table conversation moderated by Julien-Loïc Garin, our Executive Director of Fondation de France Asia, exploring the evolution of humanitarian practice, the challenges of collaboration across borders, and the enduring principles that guide these organisations.

A cocktail reception will follow, offering guests from the philanthropic, cultural, and diplomatic communities an opportunity for continued dialogue and exchange.

Admission is complimentary, with pre-registration required here:

We look forward to welcoming you for this meaningful evening of exchange and reflection on the future of humanitarian and philanthropic action in Asia.

We are proud to highlight the achievements of our partner institution, the Paris Mozart Orchestra (PMO), as it announces the finalists for the 2026 edition of La Maestra — the international conducting competition and academy dedicated to women conductors.

With renowned conductors and mentors from around the world supporting its participants, La Maestra — founded by PMO and the Philharmonie de Paris — has become one of the foremost platforms for advancing women in conducting.
This year for the 4th edition, La Maestra received 225 applications from 50 countries — a record number that underscores its global reach and growing prestige. With renowned international conductors and teachers — both men and women — sending recommendation letters in support of the candidates, La Maestra’s global reach is extending with each edition. It is now firmly established as one of the world’s top conducting competitions and academies, promoting excellence, diversity, and opportunity in the field of music leadership.

Among the exceptional musicians selected to compete in Paris next February are three talented Asian conductors:

Jiajing Lai (China, 34) — Based in Beijing, Lai was a semi-finalist in the inaugural 2020 edition and returns this year as the first two-time La Maestra candidate.

Sunwoo Jeong (South Korea, 23) — One of the youngest finalists, Jeong is both a conductor and composer, and was a finalist in the Tokyo International Conducting Competition 2024.

Sukjong Kim (South Korea, 32) — Based in Hamburg, Kim was a semi-finalist in the 2024 Korean National Symphony Orchestra International Competition and comes highly recommended by colleagues in Germany.

Fondation de France Asia is honoured to support PMO’s mission to foster diversity and excellence in music, and to celebrate the Asian artists making their mark on the world stage.

We recently had the honor of co-hosting a private roundtable with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) at the Rosewood Hotels. The intimate gathering, held at the Carlyle Club on 9th of September was a unique opportunity to delve into the findings of the latest World Giving Report series, a comprehensive study published earlier this July on global generosity. Our discussions provided exclusive insights into what this groundbreaking data means for the future of philanthropy in Asia.

The conversation was led by a distinguished group of speakers, including Shazia Amjad from the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy, Dr. Pratyush Kumar Panda from OneStage - registered as Charities Aid Foundation India, Maree Sidey from Philanthropy Australia, Jessie Krafft from CAF America, our own Julien-Loïc Garin from Fondation de France Asia, and Sarah Howard, chair of the Global Philanthropy Forum. Their collective expertise offered a truly rich and informative exchange on the current landscape of giving. While the World Giving Report - Donor Insights was a key focus, we look forward to the forthcoming Charity Insights report, a collaborative venture set to be published later this month. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and a step toward a deeper understanding of the philanthropic world.
