This annual event aims to 'smash the stigma' surrounding mental health and raises funds to support our three partner charities. The Hong Kong Blue Blue Tie Ball committee came together when a few rugby team mates started chatting over a beer. Sadly a number of rugby teams in HK have been impacted by su***des in recent years and we wanted to help do something about it. As well as playing a game of
rugby and hosting a cracking evening, our aim is to raise awareness and funds to invest back in to the community in support of good mental health. We have three wonderful charity partners:
KELY are a HK youth focussed group who focus on peer support, leadership development and mentorship to help those who may have low self-esteem, may be facing drug and/or alcohol abuse, issues relating to integration and may not be receiving the support services they need. http://www.kely.org/en/index.html
Mind HK seeks to improve awareness and understanding of mental health, while breaking the stigma around it. Through provision of training, educational materials and international speakers they help the public to understand mental health and learn how to best help others. https://www.mind.org.hk/
Our third partner charity is the Samaritan Befrienders, a support organisation for those in crisis, with multilingual helplines providing support to those struggling with loneliness or depression, helping them to regain confidence in life. SBHK similarly conducts outreach the community through talks, seminars, research and other means of community service: https://sbhk.org.hk/?lang=en
