✨ Event Recap | A vibrant start to the third edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest!

The launch ceremony of this year’s Hong Kong Fashion Fest was recently held at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, offering an exciting first glimpse of the city’s major fashion event this September. Under the theme “Rhythm of the Heart,” the third edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest will take place from 1 to 14 September, bringing together a series of flagship programmes, creative talents and fashion exchanges that showcase the distinctive charm of Hong Kong’s fashion scene. The event also featured a preview of selected fashion pieces by local designers, building even greater anticipation for what’s to come in September. Get ready for September's ultimate fashion mega event! Spearheaded and sponsored by CCIDA, the third edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest make its much-anticipated return from September 1 to 14. Last Thursday, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Miss Rosanna Law, and industry partners officiated at the ceremony at the Hong Kong Museum of Art!

Centred on the theme "Rhythm of the Heart", CCIDA is teaming up with 6 industry partners (including HKTDC, HKDC, CITA, HKFDA, HKFC, and HKDI) to bring 8 international flagship programmes. Today's launch even featured an exclusive sneak peek of selected fashion pieces! 👗

Meet some of the emerging talents leading the charge against fashion’s waste crisis worldwide.

🇩🇪 Representing Germany, Jon Liesenfeld’s collection, ‘The youth lacks its master’, explores the declining bond between young and old, with looks that fuse flawed leather with deadstock jersey.

🇭🇰 Representing Hong Kong, .looks Jasmine Cheuk’s collection, ‘Silent Current’, is rooted in Hong Kong’s iconic ‘drying laundry’ scenery and uses a threadless ‘interlaced hole-link’ system for disassembly.

🇦🇹 Representing Austria, David Schuch’s collection, ‘Handstraußregel’, innovates with a handmade leather-like biomaterial that fuses the naturally shed wool of non-farm animals with native fruits and alginate.

🇬🇧 Representing the United Kingdom, Holly Shih’s collection, ‘Threads of Time’, reimagines the rigid geometry of Taiwanese iron window grilles as fluid, wearable structures.

🇨🇳 Representing the Chinese Mainland, Yi Ding’s collection, ‘Faded Paper’, transforms Chinese paper-cutting from a symbol of patriarchal control into a statement of strength through 3D suspended jacquard knitwear and zero-waste paper-cutting.

Meet some of the emerging talents leading the charge against fashion’s waste crisis worldwide.

🇮🇩 Representing Indonesia, Christabell Bellini’s collection, ‘Christabell Bellini’, reminisces the designer’s childhood home, once decorated with family antiques, lace table covers, curtain trimmings, and rugged carpet.

🇨🇳 Representing the Chinese Mainland, Qiyu Li’s collection, ‘Recover’, makes use of old bed covers and sheets gifted by her grandmother, who had stored them after they fell out of trend.

🇺🇸 Representing the United States of America, Elizabeth DeWald’s collection, ‘Subvert, Sustain’, subverts traditional knitting techniques with yarn made from secondhand T-shirts and transforms trims into fabrics.

🇬🇧 Representing the United Kingdom, Alexandra Burch’s collection, ‘Cotswold Remnants’, is inspired by the designer’s hometown in the Cotswolds and its heritage of blanket making.

🇮🇩 Representing Indonesia, .gabrie Amanda Gabriella Handojo’s collection, ‘Filum Perpetuitatis’, draws inspiration from the regenerative nature of mushrooms, with garments repaired through visible embroidery over time.

🇮🇱 Representing Israel, Tal Zohar’s collection, ‘Backward is the New Forward’, explores the idea that progress begins by looking back, and handweaves recycled natural yarns in collaboration with Bedouin women.

Meet some of the emerging talents leading the charge against fashion’s waste crisis worldwide.

🇮🇳 Representing India, Mohamad Anas‘ collection, ‘Remnants of Shelter’, draws inspiration from the designer’s memories of growing up in the Himalayan foothills, where cold weather and layered winter clothing were part of everyday life.

🇮🇹 Representing Italy, .sofiya Sofiya Petryna’s collection, ‘Mementos of Spirit’, celebrates the beauty of healing through the creative process, featuring handmade wool felt treated with a hand-needling technique to create a portrait print.

🇵🇭 Representing the Philippines, Gil Justin Salazar‘s collection, ‘TANGLAW-AN’, reflects the designer’s emotions toward the fashion industry’s many contrasts – lightness and instability, strength and emotion.

🇭🇰 Representing Hong Kong, Issac Tong’s collection, ‘Diva, the Chameleon’, draws inspiration from the late Hong Kong pop star Anita Mui Yim-fong, transforming bags to garments and vice versa.

🇫🇮 Representing Finland, .designs Miia Keskitalo‘s collection, ‘Rainscape’, is inspired by her thesis on the possibilities of umbrella material in wearable design products.

Tech x Textile: Shaping the Future of the Industry

At the “15th Five-Year Plan” Textile & Garment Industry Opportunities and Global Development Seminar, a panel on “Tech x Textile” explored how AI, automation, and digitalisation are transforming supply chains and reshaping the industry. Moderated by Mr Pat Nie Woo, Chairman of the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium, the discussion featured Mr Roger Chan, Chairman of the CITA, Ms Katherine Chan, Director of the HKRITA, and Mr Li Wai Kwan, CFO of Crystal International Group.

Panelists shared how smart supply chain systems, data-driven models, and industrial AI can improve transparency, efficiency, and sustainability. They emphasised moving away from traditional manufacturing methods towards agile, demand-responsive production to help businesses to adapt faster to market changes and reduce waste.

The discussion underscored the importance of embracing technology to future-proof the industry and build competitive, adaptable supply chains.

科技與紡織:塑造行業未來

在「『十五五』紡織及製衣業機遇和全球行業發展研討會」上,「科技+紡織」專題討論環節探討人工智能、自動化及數字化如何革新供應鏈和重塑紡織製衣業。環節由時裝企業持續發展聯盟會長吳柏年先生主持,邀請製衣業訓練局主席陳永安先生、香港紡織及成衣研發中心商務總監陳念群女士,以及晶苑國際集團首席財務官李偉君先生分享。

嘉賓指出,智慧供應鏈系統、數據驅動模式及工業人工智能可提升透明度、效率及可持續性,並強調業界需從傳統製造模式轉向更靈活、按需生產的模式,以更快回應市場變化。

Fashion as a Cultural Bridge: Hong Kong's Role under the 15th Five-Year Plan

Speaking at the "Textile & Garment Industry Seminar: Opportunities and Global Development Under the 15th Five-Year Plan", Hon Sunny Tan, Legislative Council Member and Chairman of the Hong Kong Fashion Council, emphasised Hong Kong's key role in fostering regional textile collaboration.

Turning attention to Hong Kong's cultural potential, fashion can serves as a "golden card" to showcase Chinese creativity globally. Through strategic events, Hong Kong can help mainland designers and brands reach international audiences.

He underscored the importance of Hong Kong Fashion Fest, describing it as a flagship event that not only showcases Hong Kong's fusion of creativity and international influence but also strengthens cultural soft power and global engagement.

"Hong Kong Fashion Fest goes beyond a celebration of creativity; it's a platform to amplify China's cultural influence on the international stage through the universal language of fashion," as his words. With continued government support, Hong Kong Fashion Fest will further strengthen Hong Kong's position as a global hub for fashion diplomacy and cultural exchange.

時裝作為文化橋樑:香港在「十五五」規劃下的角色

在「『十五五』紡織及製衣業機遇和全球行業發展研討會」上,立法會議員及香港時裝協會主席陳祖恒強調了香港在促進區域紡織合作中的關鍵角色。

他指出,時裝可成為展現中華文化的「金名片」,可以透過具策略性的活動,協助內地設計師和品牌進軍國際市場,向全球觀眾展現中國文化的特色。

他亦特別強調「香港時裝薈」的重要性,作為一個旗艦活動,時裝薈不僅展現香港的創意與國際影響力的融合,更在推動文化軟實力和國際交往方面發揮了重要作用。

The “Textile & Garment Industry Seminar: Opportunities and Global Development Under the 15th Five-Year Plan” concluded successfully at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 28th April. Organised by the Textile Council of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Textile, the seminar brought together over 200 industry leaders, policymakers, and enterprise representatives from Mainland China, ASEAN nations, and Hong Kong.

The seminar featured opening remarks by Dr. Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and participation from the China National Textile and Apparel Council and the ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries, highlighting the importance of regional collaboration in building an innovative and resilient sector.

Key Highlights:
• Strengthened collaboration with ASEAN representatives, driving regional integration in supply chain management, innovation, and sustainable growth.
• Reinforced Hong Kong’s critical role as a strategic regional hub, connecting Mainland China, ASEAN, and global markets.
• Explored strategies to align the textile and garment industry with the 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on innovation, high-value manufacturing, and sustainability.

由香港紡織業聯會及香港紡織商會主辦的「『十五五』紡織及製衣業機遇和全球行業發展研討會」,於4月28日在香港會議展覽中心圓滿舉行。研討會雲集超過200位三地業界精英、政商領袖及企業代表參與,共同探討紡織及製衣行業的合作與未來發展方向。

會上,商務及經濟發展局副局長陳百里博士發表開幕致辭,並有來自中國紡織工業聯合會及東盟紡織工業聯合會訪港參與,凝聚共識以推動行業的韌性及創新發展。
