We are incredibly proud to congratulate Elim Chan, Class of 2005, on her groundbreaking appointment as the first female Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony and only the second Asian conductor to lead a major American orchestra!

Starting her tenure in September 2027, Elim will be the 13th Music Director in the institution's 115-year history. As Music Director Designate, she will lead the San Francisco Symphony in special performances this June, giving audiences an early glimpse into her visionary leadership.

Elim's journey, from her roots in Hong Kong to becoming a globally celebrated conductor, is a testament to her extraordinary talent, unwavering determination, and genuine passion for music. Her appointment marks not only a significant moment for the San Francisco Symphony, one of America's leading orchestras, but also a cultural breakthrough in the world of classical music.

This milestone is an inspiration to all of us, and we can't wait to see how Elim, as a trailblazer for women and Asian representation in classical music, will shape and enrich the future of orchestral music.

Curious how to best prepare for your application to UWC International? Or just simply wondering if you are a good fit to study at the UWC schools?

Join us for an inspiring online Info Talk featuring Kenneth She — Head of United World Colleges Hong Kong Committee (Selections Committee). Kenneth is an alumnus of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong Class of 2006, who then obtained a full scholarship to study at the University of Oxford. He started off his career at investment banking, followed by a transition to the tech industry, where he joined the founding team in Asia as the General Manager of . Kenneth is currently the CTO of Hong Kong Broadband Network HKBN.

The discussion will be hosted and moderated by Miss Balica Ng, who leads the LPCUWC admissions team.

What you’ll learn:
