Join us for the DOING GOOD INDEX 2026 Launch Webinar 📣

What does it take to strengthen Asia’s social sectors today?

On June 16th, we are unveiling the latest edition of our Doing Good Index 2026: Aligning Systems to Strengthen Asia’s Social Sectors, the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS )'s flagship policy report, published biannually.

The Doing Good Index 2026 examines how well systems support private social investment across 17 economies, with findings from 2,166 surveyed social delivery organizations (SDOs) and 132 sector expert interviews.

Now in its fifth iteration, the report offers a comparative, evidence-based view of where environments are supportive, where gaps remain and how systems can be strengthened to maximize private resources for public good.

The Index is a much-quoted resource for policymakers, philanthropists and nonprofit leaders looking to better understand and improve the conditions for giving across the region.

Our launch webinar will cover the key findings from the research and include insights from:
- Dr. Ruth Shapiro, Co-Founder & Chief Executive at CAPS
- Dr. Annelotte Walsh, Director of Research at CAPS
- Kithmina Hewage, Director of Policy Engagement at CAPS

When: Tue Jun 16th, 14.00 - 16.00
Where: Online

✈️ From across Asia to Malaysia, 40 CSR, sustainability and impact leaders gathered in Kuala Lumpur last week for Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society - CAPS 's Annual hashtag Conference to share, learn and take inspiration home.

They came from across the region to share their approaches, models and strategies for placing communities at the core of their business.

These companies span many markets and industries yet share a common instinct: partnering with communities to flourish keeps them close to the markets they serve, drives product and service innovation, and creates shared value. A win for the community is a win for business.

One major theme was what companies bring beyond traditional grants. This "X" can take many forms, be it in-kind goods and services, expertise, employee time, skills, training, infrastructure, leadership and more.

Our deepest gratitude to our co-host Yayasan Hasanah, led by Puan Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki, for their partnership and hospitality, and for inspiring others to bring the X to their giving as convener, catalyst and collaborator for corporate philanthropy in Malaysia and beyond.

And thank you to all the corporate leaders who joined us, and for sharing so openly amongst peers.

💡Stay tuned for more insights from the Impact Network.

🎉 Doing Good Index 2026 Partner Workshop - It's a WRAP!

Every year, the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) gathers our Doing Good Index partner organizations from across 17 Asian economies for an in-person workshop.

We gather. We share. We collaborate. We learn.

This year was extra special as we hosted our partners in our beautiful home city of Hong Kong.

After a full day of workshops, we spent an evening aboard Hong Kong's iconic "Ding Ding" for an unforgettable tram party.

A major highlight was giving our partners a sneak peek at the findings from our upcoming Doing Good Index 2026 report.

Our Doing Good Index partners are instrumental in helping us gather the data that underpins this research. For the 2026 edition, this included surveying 2,166 social delivery organizations and consulting 132 experts across 17 economies.

A heartfelt thank you to all our partners for coming from across the region and making this convening so meaningful.

We are grateful to our partners for the energy, insights and commitment they brought to this year's workshop.

🌍 New CAPS Research: Diaspora Philanthropy’s Untapped Potential

The Asian diaspora wants to give back home, but geopolitical tensions, reputational risk, and compliance complexity are holding billions in potential impact captive.

Our latest report, “Giving Back Home: Exploring Diaspora Philanthropy to China, India, the Philippines and Vietnam”, uncovers:

- High willingness to give among overseas Chinese, Indian, Filipino, and Vietnamese communities
- How regulations create both barriers and trust signals
- The rising role of intermediaries
- Diaspora donors turning to impact investing as an alternative

💦 This World Water Day, we're highlighting a few examples from our
"Building Back Greener: Addressing Climate Change in Asia" report of how private social investment is working to solve some of the region's water challenges, from treating drinking water and irrigation, to wastewater and groundwater protection.

In Thailand, Charoen Pokphand Group Co.,Ltd. is investing in reliable water access so smallholder farmers can grow fruits and vegetables where they previously couldn’t, while also training them to manage wastewater from new coffee processing activities

In the Philippines, Aboitiz Group links its role as a major renewable energy producer with a commitment to provide clean, safe drinking water for communities, framing water access as core to climate‑resilient development and quality of life.

In water‑stressed parts of India, Tata Steel’s Green School program teaches students in water-stressed areas how climate change drives drought, mobilising them around water conservation and pairing this with efforts to improve village sanitation.

Also in India, grantmaking organization Arghyam, funded by philanthropist Rohini Nilekani, works with government systems on groundwater stewardship, training local and state officials in sustainable sanitation solutions.

These examples are testament to the complementary role of private capital in meeting Asia's climate challenges, protecting ecosystems, securing rural livelihoods and safeguarding long‑term growth.

Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) Co-Founder and Chief Executive Ruth Shapiro shared her views in the 'India Philanthropy Report 2026' published by Bain & Company and x Dasra earlier this month.

"Philanthropy isn’t a traditional industry. You have to work harder to create the ambiance, the sharing, and the synergies between stakeholders. Hubs in Asia are developing a shared network of people who understand the issues. The quality of engagement goes up when information is shared and relationships deepen."

Ruth's insights echo CAPS' research from our 2023 report 'Hong Kong as a Philanthropy Hub', produced in collaboration with the @香港明天更好基金 The Better Hong Kong Foundation.
