This duo was found abandoned on a hiking trail. We don’t know how they got there or where their mum went, but we do know this: they picked the right humans to cross paths with🤭

Now they’re busy living their best little lives with our TAILS fosters – eating like champs, perfecting their wiggles, and soaking up every cuddle they can get from their very willing humans.

We Have a Sad Update About Amira and Her Kittens

If you followed our Stories, you would have seen Amira go into labour earlier today and our update asking you to stay tuned as we monitored her closely, hopeful for good news.

Amira was one of 12 cats recently rescued from a colony taken in by TAILS, including several pregnant cats and newborns needing urgent, around-the-clock care.

She is just a kitten herself, barely old enough to be desexed, yet she was already carrying four babies.

Despite being safely in foster care and closely monitored, Amira developed complications during labour and was rushed for emergency surgery.

Despite every effort from her veterinary team, none of her kittens survived.

Amira survived.

We are heartbroken by the loss of her kittens, but deeply grateful she is still here today. Without TAILS taking her in and the urgent care from our vets, neither she nor her kittens would have survived.

This is the reality of rescue.

We see the urgent cases, the preventable suffering, the fragile lives that depend entirely on whether help arrives in time. And we are only able to respond because of our incredible fosters who step up without hesitation, and our veterinary partners who support us with urgent care and discounted emergency treatment so we can keep saying yes.

We want to thank Amira’s devoted foster carers for being by her side, and Dr. Queeny and the team at Lantau Community Veterinary Clinic for their immediate and compassionate care.

Her story is also a reminder of why desexing is so critical. Cats can become pregnant as young as four months old, and populations can grow rapidly, leading to situations like this that are entirely preventable.

This is sweet boy Miggy, an incredibly lovely 6 month old kitten💛 He’s in need of a brave, caring foster who can provide a lot of love and hands on care.

Miggy was all set to head to his new home last week, but before the handover his fosters noticed some concerning signs. Further investigations have led us to believe that Miggy likely has a hole in his heart. ❤️‍🩹

No one knows his full prognosis yet but he will need to see a cardiologist and undergo further assessment.

Despite the unknowns we do know Miggy is a beautiful little soul who deserves a chance. 💛

We are looking for a very brave foster who can provide a calm, loving environment for him while we navigate the next steps. Ideally, someone who works from home, or has animal-loving family who can monitor him throughout the day. He may need medication and be taken to and from vet appointments depending on the outcome (fully covered by TAILS).

😻Meet chonky girl Lam Lam!

Lam Lam is a posh cat lady - She’s a shy cat that needs time to warm up, but once she trusts you, there’s no going back. Shes an affectionate gal; she loves using her irresistible charm for some cuddles, leg rubs and head strokes.

Lam Lam can be picky with the cats she gets along with, so would be a suitable solo cat. She loves her personal space, padded with her human scented blankets. She’s also an appreciator of a calm safe environment where she can belly flip anywhere she likes.

We thought we were taking in 12 cats.
Turns out… we took in an entire future generation too.

A few weeks ago, we said yes to helping a group of young cats belonging to a caring soul who has become unwell and overwhelmed trying to care for them all.

This situation came from a place of compassion, but over time, the number of cats grew beyond what one person could realistically manage, and some of the cats arrived needing medical care and intervention.

Like so many rescue stories, a few cats quickly became many, and before long, the situation had grown beyond what any single person could safely sustain.

We initially prepared to take in 12 cats.

But since intake, we’ve discovered that FOUR of the females were pregnant, nearly tripling the number of cats now in our care.

On top of that, several of the male cats were too feral and stressed to safely transport back and forth between Yuen Long and Lantau for low-cost desexing appointments.

We had two choices:
- leave them undesexed and risk even more kittens entering the cycle
- or absorb the much higher private vet costs and do the responsible thing

So that’s what we did.

Huge thank you to 凝心動物醫療中心 Heartiest Veterinary Medical Centre for being flexible, kind, and helping us with discounted rates while we navigated this situation 💛

But the reality is: this intake has more than doubled the number of cats TAILS is supporting almost overnight.

This is what rescue looks like, showing up when it matters, and figuring out the costs afterwards. Right now those costs include:

Vaccinations
Emergency desexing
Flea/tick prevention
Deworming
Food
Litter
Transport
Foster supplies

It adds up incredibly fast for a small, volunteer-run rescue funded almost entirely by private donations, and we can’t do it alone.

So this is us being honest: We really need help right now.

Not in a dramatic “the sky is falling” way.
Just in a very real rescue-world way where saying “yes” often means absorbing the reality afterwards.

If 100 people donated just HKD $50, it would make a real and immediate difference.

And if you can’t donate, sharing this post genuinely helps just as much. Rescue survives because ordinary people decide to care.

✨ Meet Twinkle ✨

Some cats are cute. Some cats are sweet.
Twinkle is that once-in-a-while kitten who is both the kind of companion people spend years hoping to find.

This beautiful little girl is affectionate without being demanding, playful without being chaotic, and has the kind of gentle, loving personality that makes a home instantly feel warmer. She’ll curl up beside you while you work, supervise your emails from your lap, sit in on your Zoom calls like she pays rent, and quietly follow you from room to room just happy to be near you. 💛

Twinkle is incredibly adaptable and would make an amazing first cat for someone new to pet guardianship, but she’d also fit beautifully into a family or multi-cat home.

And honestly, cats are perfectly suited to Hong Kong living. They’re affectionate companions while still being independent enough to fit beautifully into busy lifestyles. Many of our adopters come back later for a second cat because they can’t imagine life without one after their first.

SHARE TO HELP REESE🚨We have one week to find Reese a new foster, or he has nowhere to go🚨

This is the reality of not having a shelter. TAILS relies entirely on foster homes, and sometimes, completely understandably, a foster’s time comes to an end due to travel, work, or just needing a break. We love our fosters deeply and couldn’t do any of this without them, but right now we are very low on backup homes, and this sweet young boy urgently needs somewhere to go by next weekend.

The upside of a foster-based rescue is that dogs like Reese don’t grow up in kennels; they grow up in real homes. They get used to normal routines, human interaction, and often other dogs, which helps them socialise, build confidence, and lets us understand their personality and needs so much better.

Reese is a very good boy🧡 A young, affectionate pup born mid-December 2025, still in his learning and growing phase. Like all puppies his age, he needs daily walks, basic training, mental stimulation, playtime, and a calm, consistent routine to help him learn good manners and feel safe. He’s still a baby in a big body, so he thrives with gentle guidance, structure, and lots of love.

Fostering Reese isn’t a lifelong commitment; it’s a short chapter that changes everything for him. You provide the home, routine, and feedback, and we cover all vet care and support you every step of the way — even if you’re new to dogs or fostering.

We need a foster in place by next weekend. Even a short-term foster keeps him safe while we search for his longer-term match🫶🏻
