【In Deepest Memory of Dr TANG Siu Sing, Kenneth】

The Smart City Consortium (SCC) is deeply saddened by the passing of our esteemed colleague, mentor, and dear friend, Dr TANG Siu Sing, Kenneth, on 3 August 2026. As a Founding Council Member of the SCC and the visionary Chairman of our Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) Committee, Dr Tang was an irreplaceable pillar of our organization.

We extend our heartiest gratitude for his years of tireless service and offer our profound condolences to his wife, family, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

Dr Tang was a pioneering force who bridged the gap between academic theory and real-world smart city applications in Hong Kong. Throughout his distinguished career — from his award-winning tenure at the Planning Department to his influential role as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong — he championed the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence, and spatial data. His leadership not only revolutionized urban planning practices but also laid the foundational building blocks for Hong Kong's evolution into a world-class smart city.

Beyond his technical achievements, Dr Tang’s true legacy lies in his immense passion for nurturing the next generation of spatial data professionals. He was instrumental in driving the success of the Geospatial Lab (GeoLab), serving as a Founding Member of its Steering Committee for Operation. Through GeoLab and SCC initiatives, he worked selflessly to popularize GIS and smart technologies among secondary schools, the general public, and young professionals. His dedication bore immense fruit, as seen in his students consistently sweeping top honours at prestigious open competitions, including the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) Awards.

Dr Tang will be remembered by the SCC community not only as a brilliant technologist and educator but as a kind, humble gentleman who never said "no" to anyone seeking his help. His dedication to advancing Hong Kong's digital blueprint has left an indelible mark on our city's history. He will be dearly missed, but his vision and spirit will continue to inspire our work at the Smart City Consortium.

最近一位對醫療行業有濃厚興趣的同學向我坦言，眼見人工智能發展一日千里，他擔心將來醫生的角色，恐怕只淪為在AI報告上簽名確認，「醫生」這個身份會否變得可有可無，甚至懷疑是否還值得投身這條路。

每年DSE及IB放榜，總有不少成績優異的「狀元」表示希望入讀醫科，今年也不例外。但當我們回望這條路，漫長的醫學課程加上艱苦的實習訓練，究竟畢業後迎接他們的，是否如那位同學所憂心般，被AI取代得所剩無幾？人工智能與傳統寒窗苦讀、按部就班行醫之路，兩者之間的關係，又應該如何理解？
