Monday (Aug 17) afternoon, our scholars and alumni had a Coffee & Chat session with BXAI mentors Prof. Shinnosuke Obi (Academic Committee Member, BXAI), Ms. Ronna Chao (CEO, BXAI) and Ms. Erica Ma (Board Governor, BXAl). ☕️🎙️

Moderated by Ms. Misato Nagakawa (BX Alumna), the session took deep dive into communication in the AI era. Our speakers reminded us to listen with our hearts, reach out, and make a real effort to nurture our relationships. The session wrapped up with scholars and alumni mingling with our speakers for in-depth, tailored advice.

As the saying goes, “You reap what you sow”. Our scholars’ hard work has finally paid off!! 😆✨️

Monday (Aug 17) morning, our scholars were split into 8 groups, each presenting on a chosen topic, from future careers, education, geopolitics to mental wellbeing in the AI era. Everyone did an amazing job! The joy of presenting is the great reward and tomorrow’s prizes are just the cherries on top!! 🥳🎉

At today’s Hot Topic Seminar, our scholars took a deep dive into diplomacy and learnt how digital technology had made it harder for people and nations to build trust and find common ground.

Our speaker, Amb. Kuninori Matsuda (Member of the Advisory Council of the DTEK in Ukraine), reminded us that no matter how extensively technology could help communication travel far and wide, we must always rely on our human attributes, such as compassion and empathy, to make it right.

Panel discussions started with our 2 alumni facilitators Ms. Moongyung Lee (Lead Analyst, Sustainable Infrastructure Investment, OECD) and Mr. Jackson Tse (Senior Vice President, C-POLAR Biotech) joining Amb. Kuninori Matsuda in analysing business and political issues and answering scholars’ questions.

Our scholars were then given a case study to work on: the “US-China Trade-Truce” of chips and rare earth materials. We’d like to thank our speakers for an incredibly insightful seminar! With this, we’re one step closer to becoming the future leaders of East Asia!!

Our workshop series ended with the Conducting Leadership Workshop on August 15 (Sat)! ✨✨

The different leadership styles of different conductors showed us that a good leader would guide team members like a mentor, acknowledging their mistakes and offering positive affirmation. Our speaker, Mr. Jason Lai (Principal Conductor at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory), engaged us in a hands-on session that made it possible for our scholars to try out conducting an orchestra! 🎶🎼

Being a leader isn’t just about authority, it’s about making sure everyone is on the same page. Let’s become better leaders with both compassion and confidence! 🤩💫

Thursday (Aug 13) afternoon, we levelled UP our money management skills with a Personal Finance Workshop.

Our speakers Mr. Danny Lee (BXAI Board Governor) and Mr. Gregory Van (Endowus Founder) helped our scholars engage with finance using simple layman concepts: the Rule of 72 and 3 Buckets approach, market asset classes and the ’wealth chicken‘ analogy, etc.. Then, we moved on to a panel session moderated by our alumni Mr. Younghyou Cho and ended with a simple assets allocation exercise. We were particularly thrilled to have Mr. Hidekazu Horikoshi (BXAI Japan) joining our panel discussions and sharing his personal experiences.

Personal finance is actually a journey of knowing ourselves. Only if we know what we need and how we want to live it out can we craft our very own personal finance strategy, a long term strategy that allows us to use our money work for us with purpose. Let us not be enslaved by money but harness it for a free and happy life!

Thursday (Aug 13) morning, our speakers Prof. Koo Min Gyo, Prof. Tomonori Ito, Prof. Jingwei (Alex) He and moderator Prof. Yoshiko Nakano presented their views on urgent East Asia issues, such as the challenges of an aging society and AI.

Our scholars then raised thought-provoking questions about the impact of these issues on younger generations, particularly the way digital cocoons shape the way we see the world.

As Prof. Nakano said, what AI cannot generate is human enthusiasm, genuineness, and trust. We will definitely keep this vibrant energy and meaningful discussions going far beyond the classroom!

Our scholars visited the MTR Light Rail Depot in Tuen Mun in the afternoon!! 🚅💨

It began with *Light Rail & Bus Memories*—an introduction to the history and development of the Light Rail system in Hong Kong. Our scholars got hands-on with a real MTR simulator, experiencing what it’s like to operate a Light Rail vehicle. 😆💫

The adventure continued, as we explored the maintenance depot and discovered how Light Rail vehicles were inspected and maintained. We also took a ride on the Light Rail to tour round Yuen Long and learned how these vehicles were cleaned—experiencing the process while staying inside the whole time! 🤩✨

What an exciting and enriching visit! It was filled with both hands-on activities and informative talks! A big THANK YOU to everyone at the MTRC for this wonderful experience!! 🚊🪐

Our workshop series continued with Connected Communication this morning! 🌞

Our speaker Mr. Mark Loasby (Managing Director, Connect Communication) introduced us to the art of communication through a teamwork game. The game encouraged scholars to communicate and work together, so that a set of shapes were arranged into a predetermined pattern. Congratulations to Group AJ3, who achieved the fastest time—completing the task in a mere 51 seconds! 🎊

Ms. Angela Cheung (Video Consultant and Corporate Trainer, BXAI Communication & Development Committee Member) then shared how we could interact and listen to each other actively in conversations. Our scholars learned some practical techniques, such as mirroring and using conversational hooks to build stronger connections. 🤝

Rebekah helped our scholars identify their personality types, so that they could stay true to themselves and be authentic in both private life and the workplace to better connect with others.
