The Greater Bay Yachting Archipelago Becomes a Reality
Beijing has recently approved a pilot scheme allowing yachts to enter designated Greater Bay Area (GBA) mainland ports without customs guarantees, in a strategic move to boost the region's yacht economy. In an official statement released on 30 May 2026, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced: “Hong Kong welcomes the State Council's announcement of its approval of exemption of the requirement of a guarantee and implementation of temporary ship nationality registration for Hong Kong and Macao yachts when temporarily entering and exiting the Chinese Mainland through designated ports in the nine cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the GBA), and only navigating within these cities.” To see the full press release go to: apsuperyacht.org/the-greater-bay-yachting-archipelago-becomes-a-reality/

APSA celebrates World Boating Day 2026 in Hong Kong
The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association (APSA) was please to celebrate World Boating Day 2026 aboard the superyacht Van Triumph a 66m (212 ft) superyacht built in Hong Kong in 1983. This historic superyacht holds the distinction of being the first superyacht built in Hong Kong and was constructed at the Supercraft shipyard in Tsing Yi by local financier David Lieu. The vessel's gross tonnage at approximately 1,506 GT, and the hull was constructed using specialized R41 Seawater Corrosion-Resistant steel plate produced by Kawasaki Steel in Japan. Its structural strength was designed to exceed standard Lloyd's of London insurance safety rules by roughly 30% to withstand severe typhoons. She is equipped with twin Yanmar diesel engines giving the superayacht an extreme cruising range of 15,000 nautical miles and rendering it one of the world's earliest custom explorer/expedition-style yachts. For many years, the yacht was a fixture in Victoria Harbour and was famous for motoring up to the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on Saturdays as the Jardines noon-day gun was fired. The superyacht has a new owner and was recently refitted in China and this classic and stylish renovation has given the yacht a new lease of life. Van Triumph has recently returned to Hong Kong after her Spring Festival Travel at Hainan Clearwater Bay Marina in Sanya, China, and APSA would like to thank Captain 梁木根 Leung, Muk Kan and the crew for welcoming us onboard and giving us a tour of this iconic superyacht which has a long and interesting Hong Kong story.
