Bethune House Migrant Women's Refuge Bethune House is a temporary shelter for women
migrant workers in Hong Kong.

It is a home away from home for women migrant workers in distress seeking justice. It is a community driven shelter that relies mainly on donations from kindhearted people. Women migrant workers accomodated in Bethune House have cases to file or ongoing cases related to:
labour grievances & claims;
illegal collection of agency fees / collection of exorbitant fees, forced loans;
police, immigration, health & other concerns.*

Over the past few weeks, The HEARD Journal from Chinese International School has successfully hosted four Writing Literacy Workshops at Bethune House. The HEARD Journal is a student-led initiative that aims to amplify the voices of women through writing.

During these workshops, they taught the migrant women how to use adjectives, pronouns, transition words, and proper sentence structures, as well as explore creative writing and journaling. Participants also practiced writing with their five senses, among other activities. Each participant received a writing kit, including a notebook and a set of pens.

All participants were incredibly engaged and actively took part in every activity, learning a great deal throughout the sessions. Additionally, their work will soon be featured in a book later this year!
