Piano Play-Conducting Masterclass with Wilson Ng

Last-century maestros often conducted and performed simultaneously in concertos — the orchestra’s opening themes were led entirely by the soloist, who would guide the ensemble before turning to the keyboard right before the piano’s entrance. Even without a conductor, the orchestra carried on, perfectly executing the musical dialogue rehearsed beforehand.
This was never about “multitasking” — it was about total musical unity:✨ Unifying solo and orchestral leadership under one vision✨ Mastering every section of the score, beyond the solo part✨ Expressing music in its most coherent and personal form
In this masterclass, we revisit this tradition — and explore the art of soloist-conducting as a profound approach to musical interpretation. It’s not just about conducting; it’s about hearing, shaping, and owning the music in its entirety.

Masterclass details:
- 3 Practical Lessons accompanied by piano or small ensemble
- Distinctive Students may be invited to a play-conduct stage performance in January 2026
Repertoire:
- any piano concerto
Application Requirements:
- Applicants must be aged 12 and above
- With ABRSM Piano Grade 8 or above
