Launched in 2002, the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest, or ABU Robocon, has been providing an international stage for engineering students in the Asia-Pacific region to showcase their robot-building skills, and build lasting friendships in the process. Hosted by an ABU (“Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union”) member broadcaster, the event is televised across the region. Radio Television Hong Kong (“RTHK”
), as one of the member broadcasters, has organised the first local competition Robocon 2004 Hong Kong Contest since 2004, with the collaborative supports by Hong Kong Computer Society (“HKCS”) and The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (“HKIE”). The winner would represent Hong Kong to compete in the host city of ABU Robocon of the year. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTP”) has been the local organiser since 2016.
