The Canadian University Association (CUA) was established by a dedicated group of returned Canadian university graduates in 1961 and has since grown to become a 1,000- member-strong alumni organizaion. The current President is Jack Ng, a Simon Fraser University alumnus, and the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr. William Yip, is among one of the active founding members. In 1979, the CUA was in
corporated as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and was also granted exemption from payment of profits tax. The formal title is known as Canadian University Association (Hong Kong) Limited. The two key objectives of the CUA are: to provide a linkage for over 200,000 Canadian university graduates that live and work in Hong Kong, and to serve as a platform for different Canadian university alumni organizations to collaborate on matters that are of interest to the wider Canadian alumni community in Hong Kong. Every year, the CUA organizes a number of activities, including seminars and talks on Canadian education and immigration issues. In addition, it funds a number of scholarships for mainland China and Hong Kong students to further their studies in Canada. The CUA is an active member of the Canadian community in Hong Kong, and maintains robust relationships with the Consulate General of Canada and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
