The mission of the EMPOWER by The Amber Foundation program for EM young women in University is to enhance their visibility to future employers, and hence their career success and financial stability, as well as overcoming racial barriers and inequality.

Your story matters. How you share it matters too.

At our upcoming Professional Presence and Communication Skills workshop, participants will practice showing up with clarity, confidence, and authenticity.

From introducing themselves to a new contact, to networking, interviewing or contributing in the workplace, participants will explore how to communicate their strengths, interests, and aspirations in a way that feels true to them.

Through practical recording, reflection, and peer-feedback activities, they will explore how their words, pace, tone, body language, and listening skills can shape the impression they make.

A sincere thank you to Morgan Stanley, for generously hosting this session and helping to create a platform for the next generation of ethnically diverse women to grow.

We look forward to seeing everyone build a professional presence that feels authentic to them.

A new EMPOWER journey begins — welcome, Cohort 9!

Our first live session brought together a room full of energy, openness and ambition, an inspiring start to the months ahead as participants build their confidence, professional networks and career-ready skills.

A huge thank you to our long-time supporter, Johnson Stokes & Master, for hosting us in such a wonderful and welcoming space, and to Zefanya Hermansjah for your coordination and for making the evening run so smoothly.

We’re also grateful to our group leaders, Michael Chan, Jessica van der Kamp, Jennifer Lee, Neville Metcalfe, Theresa Cunanan and Kiran Ajmera for sharing your time, insight and encouragement with our participants.

A special mention to EMPOWER alumni, Anjaly Saseendran, Dachina Thapa, Rabia Minhaj, Tika Rana, and Veronica Jose, who returned as group leaders. Seeing former participants come back to support the next cohort was a full-circle moment, and a powerful reminder that the EMPOWER community extends far beyond the programme itself.

Thank you to Soundari Mukherjea for leading such an engaging and energising session, and to our dedicated ExCo members and alumni volunteers, Narmeen Mubassar, Lisa Rai, and Yash*ta Sharma, for your ongoing commitment and support.

We cannot wait to see Cohort 9 grow, challenge themselves and create their futures over the journey ahead.

Cohort 9 of EMPOWER by The Amber Foundation has officially kicked off, starting with an online workshop that tackled an essential professional networking skill: Your LinkedIn Presence.

Led by ExCo member Soundari Mukherjea, the 90-minute session walked participants through the essentials, like profile photos, banners, headlines and About sections, and how employers and recruiters actually use the platform to find talent. Soundari also introduced her IMPACT framework for posting, and the idea of a “content fridge”: a running list of post ideas, ready for whenever inspiration strikes.

It was inspiring to see how the session triggered the cohort into taking informed decisions on what to “stop” and what to “start” doing with regards to their LinkedIn presence.

Here are some changes they’re making because of the workshop:

🧡 “Stop overthinking and second-guessing myself. Start being consistent with my career development. Continue seeking out new opportunities for myself.”

🧡 “Stop thinking LinkedIn is a comparison tool. Start posting even the little achievements. Continue liking and supporting others.”

🧡 “Stop being scared of algorithms and whether my post is engaging enough. Start posting regularly. Continue updating my profile.”

By the end of the session, most participants rated their confidence using LinkedIn a 4 or 5 out of 5, which was a huge jump from where the room started.
