【Curiosity Matters More Than Ever in the Age of AI】

AI is advancing faster than ever, but some human qualities can never be replaced.

For Prof Joshua Ho, Assistant Dean (Innovation and Knowledge Transfer) of the HKU Medicine, succeeding in the age of AI requires young people to cultivate uniquely human strengths, including curiosity, critical thinking and empathy.

By combining these uniquely human qualities with AI’s computational power, we can accelerate scientific discovery and open up new possibilities for the future of research.

香港桂冠論壇衷心祝賀彼得・黑格曼教授（Prof Peter Hegemann）及格奧爾格・內格爾教授（Prof Georg Nagel），聯同卡爾・戴瑟羅斯教授（Prof Karl Deisseroth）榮獲2026年諾貝爾生理學或醫學獎。

黑格曼教授及內格爾教授與格羅・米森伯克教授（Prof Gero Miesenböck）曾獲頒2020年度邵逸夫生命科學與醫學獎，以表彰他們在光遺傳學（optogenetics）發展上的開創性貢獻。這項技術為神經科學研究帶來革命性突破，並對相關領域的發展產生深遠影響。

我們特別榮幸兩位教授曾參與2023年首屆香港桂冠論壇，以真知灼見啟發一眾青年科學家。他們持續推動知識發展、培育新一代科研人才，正好展現了論壇促進科學交流的精神。

Our warmest congratulations to Prof Peter Hegemann and Prof Georg Nagel on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, together with Prof Karl Deisseroth.

Prof Hegemann and Prof Nagel, together with Prof Gero Miesenböck, were awarded the 2020 Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine in recognition of their pioneering contributions to the development of optogenetics. This groundbreaking technology has revolutionised neuroscience research and had a profound impact on related fields.

We are especially honoured that they joined the inaugural Hong Kong Laureate Forum in 2023, where their presence and insights greatly inspired the young scientists in attendance. Their continued dedication to advancing knowledge and nurturing the next generation embodies the very spirit of the Forum.
