For the Punan Vuhang village, bird signs influenced many everyday decisions. A call from a certain direction could determine whether someone travelled, hunted, worked or turned back.
After four men encountered Jesus in Indonesia and brought the Gospel home, the community slowly learned to depend on God instead of the signs that once guided them. As one elder explained: “Now, we pray first—and then we go.”
Today, through Oral Bible Translation, they can literally hear God’s Word in Punan Vuhang.
Faith Comes By Hearing had the privilege of walking alongside local translators as they translated and recorded the Gospels of Mark and John. Now, the same community that once listened for signs can listen to Scripture in the language that speaks most clearly to their hearts.
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” — Romans 10:17
