In August, Street Law Hong Kong once again collaborated with Simmons & Simmons, Hong Kong Bar Association (Standing Committee on Young Barristers (YBC) of HKBA) and Standard Chartered (SCBHK)
in organizing the “Thinking about Law” Summer Impact Lab - Legal Research Competition!

Around 40 students from 8 competing school teams joined the competition to research and present findings on trending socio-legal topics, including:

🎤 Criminal law: Establishment of a sentencing council for criminal sentencing
🎤 Date privacy: Legal protection against deepfakes
🎤 Copyright law: Text and data mining exception under the new Copyright Ordinance
🎤 Tort law: Legal protection against educational negligence

Participating students also had a chance to take part in various thematic Street Law interactive workshops to learn about the fundamentals of legal principles in these areas of laws to guide them on their research.

All these are only possible through the contribution from our team of dedicated 20 corporate volunteers from S&S, HKBA and SCB, who passionately shared their expertise and insights with our students.

Special thanks must also be give to our 6 student learning facilitators and our 2 programme coordinators: Denise Tsik and Ivan Law for curating this wonderful learning journey for our students.

🚨書本上學過的法治概念，與社會和人們的生活有什麼關係？
🚨仔細觀察每個生活的場景，法律擔當了什麼角色？ 🚨我們現行的法律又有否達到以人為本的精神？
 經歷兩屆的模擬法庭暑期學院後，Street Law Hong Kong 今年有新嘗試！我們將招募約 30 位高中學生成為「諗」法實驗室的一份子，以年輕人的角度思考法律和社會之間的關係！

After two years of successfully organizing Moot Court Summer School, Street Law HK is embarking on a new journey! We will be recruiting 30 high school students to be a part of our Thinking about “Law” Impact Lab and to reflect on the relationship between the legal system and the society from the youth’s perspective.

SLHK and Project Empowerment are joining hands to curate an all new community legal education initiative called "Flip Courtroom - Access to Justice issues faced by the ethnic minorities in Hong Kong".

We are currently recruiting actors to curate this workshop with our group of law students and lawyers.

Programme Detail✉️:

By joining the Innovative Community Legal Education Fellowship, you will gain the following:

1) Professional Training💁🏻‍♀️
At least 2 half-day of professional training in future-proof skills, such as: facilitation skills, programme & product design and project management

2) Experiment👊🏻
-Fellows will have the chance to participate as learning facilitators in our community legal education sessions to practice what they have learnt and understand how to engage with the target audience.

3) Execution💪🏻
Fellows will have the opportunity to choose the following community legal education initiatives to participate in
(a)Flip Courtroom👯‍♂️ (for the Ethnic Minority Community)
- Simulating disadvantaged communities’ experience in the judicial process and help legal practitioners understand the shortcomings of the justice system in engaging the disadvantaged.

(b) Street Law Card / Board Game♣︎
-Collaborate with our social enterprise partner specialising in game design to design a set of card / board game

(c) Virtual Reality Street Law Workshop🎮
- Collaborate to bring the knowledge of criminal procedure into the community using VR

(d) Moot Court Summer School 2024🏫
-To blend conventional moot court training with innovative educational programmes to help build young people’s understanding of the law
