🌍 As part of our World First Aid Day 2026 series, we’re celebrating the people behind first aid - the young people who learn, serve and help build safer communities.

Meet Howard Ng Yan Hau, a Cadet Sergeant with the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association 香港聖約翰救傷會 Brigade Youth Command. Howard joined St John at 12, inspired by the opportunity to turn first-aid training into real service at events across Hong Kong.

For Howard, first aid is about more than knowledge or certificates. It is about living the St John motto, “Pro utilitate hominum” - for the service of humanity.

His proudest moment is not winning awards, but seeing a cadet he taught save a life with calm composure.

“Knowing that a fellow cadet could uphold the St. John values and help another human being... that is my greatest reward.”

Now aspiring to study medicine, Howard continues to champion volunteering, leadership and service, encouraging young people to use their time and skills to help others.

💛 Every first aider has a story. Every skill can make a difference.

🌍 Welcome to Grand Council 2026!

This week, members of our St John family from across the world come together for Grand Council – an important moment for our global movement to connect, reflect and look ahead together.

What is Grand Council?

St John is a global movement, but the needs of the communities we serve are different in every country and region. Grand Council creates a valuable space for our senior leadership to come together, share those different experiences and perspectives, learn from one another and shape our collective priorities for the future.

It is an opportunity to strengthen collaboration across St John, celebrate what we have achieved together and have important conversations about the opportunities and challenges facing our movement.

Above all, Grand Council strengthens the relationships that connect St John across countries, communities and continents; ensuring that while our work takes many different forms around the world, we remain united by our shared mission and commitment to serving humanity.

Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing moments and stories from Grand Council and celebrating the people who make our global movement what it is.

To everyone joining us from around the world – welcome to Grand Council 2026! 💛
