I donโ€™t know why, but this tale immediately takes me back to a fateful day on December 12, 1976, at the Margaret Drive Hawker Centreโ€”the murders of 24-year-old Phoon Ah Leong and his 56-year-old mother, Hu Yuen Keng; both were stabbed in the heart.

The killer, 35-year-old Haw Tua Tau, seized a hand scraper and lunged at Phoon once in his heart while he was taking orders from two female customers. Hu, who rushed over to help her second son, was stabbed twice in the chest.

Haw was apprehended at Singapore General Hospital where he sought medical treatment after his arm was slashed by Phoonโ€™s elder brother with a chopper while he was attempting to stab Phoon's younger sister. Haw was sentenced to death and executed by hanging at Changi Prison in 1982, after his final appeal was unsuccessful at the age of 41.

Former actor Huang Yiliang was taken to hospital after an alleged assault at his hawker stall amid a dispute with a neighbouring stall owner. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.
