The tenth MEL CoP, held on June 25, 2025 (Wednesday), was a huge success 🌟 and left a lasting impact on the participants. A diverse group of 82 attendees, representing various social service fields and professional backgrounds, gathered with great enthusiasm 🎉.

The event was graced by four experienced speakers, including Mr. Lau Chi Ming, Service Manager of Pok Oi Hospital , Mrs. Wong Tung Yuen, District Elderly Community Centre , Ms. Chen Yan Wen, Social Work Supervisor of Caritas Jockey Club Resource and Support Centre for Carers , Mr. Tai Chi Ho, Service Director of Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association , and Mr. Tsoi Chi Laam, Social Worker of Hong Kong Family Welfare Society. Their presence and expertise greatly enriched the session as they shared wonderful insights in tackling insufficient hydration among carers of elderly 💧.

Throughout the event, speakers shared valuable experience in implementing a series of interactive workshops for carers to encourage sufficient hydration intake using the Behavior-Attitude-Cognition-Knowledge (BACK) Model 🧠, as well as evaluating the program using the MEL framework in different levels 📊. Given the positive outcome of the project, they also provided possible directions for project development as well as their enthusiastic feedback on joining the MEL project 🚀.

The event inspired practitioners across various NGO sectors to raise their awareness of carers’ well-being 🌱, the importance of designing practical programs based on a logic model 📈, and evaluate programs using empirical methodologies, ultimately enhancing support to caregivers 🤝, and promoting a healthy living style among the aged generation 🧓👵.

Smart Drinks for Healthy Life: A Study on Hydration Knowledge and Water Intake Practices among Caregivers for Elderly

Description:
As the population ages, the pressure on caregivers increases. ‘Smart Drinks for Healthy Life’ Group aims to encourage caregivers to learn different knowledge about "body hydration" through regular meetings, so that they can pay more attention to the physical and mental health of themselves and the people they care for. The Jockey Club's MEL training programme combines systematic monitoring, evaluation and learning to provide a scientific effectiveness evaluation framework for our group. This sharing will introduce how to use the MEL tool to comprehensively evaluate and optimize service quality, from designing group goals, collecting quantitative and qualitative data, to analyzing caregivers' satisfaction and group effectiveness. Through practical examples, we will explore how to adjust the group content based on the evaluation results, enhance the participation and support of carers, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the service. Welcome colleagues to join us and learn how to use MEL to promote the continuous improvement and influence expansion of carers’ drinking water groups.

Speaker:
Mr. Lau Chi Ming, Service Manager of Pok Oi Hospital Mrs. Wong Tung Yuen District Elderly Community Centre
Ms. Chen Yan Wen, Social Work Supervisor of Caritas Jockey Club Resource and Support Centre for Carers
Mr. Tai Chi Ho, Senior Manager of Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association
Mr. Tsoi Chi Laam, Social Worker of Hong Kong Family Welfare Society

Introduction of the Jockey Club MEL Institute Project:

A 3-year programme, Jockey Club MEL Institute Project, funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, aims to further promote organizational-level MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) capacity by providing holistic training to local NGO practitioners. Participants from different social services and professional backgrounds in local NGOs will complete a 6-month programme, which consists of a 7-week training session and a 4-month mentored practicum.
