Last call for October Camp. 🏮

October Camp at Acorn Playhouse runs 20 to 23 October and 26 to 30 October — nine days of bilingual Chinese cultural learning for ages 2 to 6. Every day a different tradition, every day a take-home craft your child makes themselves.

Here's what makes this camp unlike anything else in Southside HK:

Every take-home craft is a real, usable product — not a paper craft:
🌿 Herbal Sachets (Xiāngbāo) — traditional scent pouches with lavender and mugwort, sealed with a wooden stamp

Is it a lemon muffin recipe, or is it a chemistry and fraction lesson? At Acorn, it's both. 🍋

Last week in Junior Chef, our little chefs didn't just bake — they explored the science of food!

✦ Math in the Kitchen: Understanding "one whole" vs "half," and discovering how two halves come together to make one whole.
✦ Chemistry in Action: Combining an acid (citric lemon juice) with a base (baking soda) to create a carbon dioxide reaction — using sticks to release the fizz and build fine motor precision.

We call it a culinary curriculum, not a cooking class. Every recipe teaches STEM, culture, manners, and life skills. All in English and Putonghua, for children aged 18 months to 6 years.

Chinese Culture & Culinary Family Discovery Day — 17 October, 9am to 12:45pm.

Your family gets 3.5 hours across five activity stations:

🥐 Culinary Studio: Your little chef bakes authentic Hong Kong Pineapple Buns from scratch, then practices "pouring and pulling" their own frothy iced Ovaltine — wearing their very own chef hat to keep.

🍭 Sugar Art Workshop (糖畫): Watch traditional liquid sugar painting, then create your own edible cultural masterpiece to take home.

🎨 Tie-Dye Atelier (紥染): Design and dye a custom hair tie or handkerchief using traditional Chinese dip-dyeing techniques.

🏺 Ancient Treasure Excavation: Dig into plaster blocks to uncover mini porcelain vases and Chinese cultural artefacts to keep. Plus themed play corners across the Playzone.

🍵 Outdoor Floral Tea Sensory Play: Child-friendly floral teas in tiny tea-tasting cups, on our terrace.

All led by native Putonghua and English teachers. Ages 2 to 6. HK$340 per child. Unlimited parents and helpers welcome.

Watch our Growing Acorns (12 to 24 months) build fine motor precision, pincer grip strength, and gross motor balance — all through play, all in English and Putonghua.

Ring stacking and tong play aren't just fun. They're the building blocks for early handwriting, spatial awareness, and independence.

Here's what's actually happening during this session:

✋ Physical Development: Pincer grip strength (tongs), wrist control (ring stacking), and gross motor balance across the room
🎯 Hand-Eye Coordination: Target precision through monster-feeding games and spatial mapping
🗣️ Bilingual Immersion: Learning directional and action words in Putonghua (穿過, 拿起來, 放進去, 棒棒的!) naturally through play
