Postgraduate Certificate in Archival Studies offered by HKU SPACE
Programme Overview
The programme is designed for archivists or those engaging in records management related functions who wish to update their professional knowledge and skills, widen their international exposure and obtain an academic qualification for their profession.
The programme has been jointly organized by the International Council on Archives - East Asian Regional Branch (EASTICA) and Hong Kong University, School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) since 2003.
The programme aims to guide students to manage archives in their organization to meet business, legal, fiscal, public relations and cultural needs.
All lectures and seminars are conducted by academics and archives specialists from world over. All instructors are prominent experts in the subjects they teach.
Entry Requirements
Applicants shall:
a) hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized university; AND
b) have 2 years records, archives or relevant work experience preferred; AND
c) demonstrate proficiency in English
Applicants with other qualifications and relevant work experience will be considered on individual merits.
Programme Details
Program Structure
This is a three-week intensive programme comprising not less than 120 hours of lecturing, seminar and visits. The programme introduces to students:
• Module 1 – Fundamental Principles and Theories of Archival Management
• Module 2 - Current Records Management: Fundamental Principles and Theories.
• Module 3 – Archival Appraisal : Principles and Methodology
• Module 4 – Archival Administration: Accession, Arrangement and Description
• Module 5 - Management of Electronic Records
• Module 6 – Supervised Special Project
Certificate will be awarded to candidates who have completed the following requirements:
1. achieve at least 80% attendance; and
2. achieve a pass in class exercises and tests ; and
3. achieve a pass in a written report to be submitted within ONE month after the end of lectures.

• 3 weeks
• Class begins on 6 January 2025 and ends on 25 January 2025

• Mon - Fri , 9:00 am - 5 :00 pm
• Sat, 9:00 am – 1 :00 pm
Student Accommodation
On request, overseas student will be assisted in making accommodation arrangements during their stay in Hong Kong. Room rate is approximately HK$800 to $1,000 per day (single/double occupancy), subject to 10% service charge. Please note that room rates depend on individual hotel/guest house.
