[🎉FRIDAY SEMINAR SERIES🎉]
Modern buildings have evolved from being warm shelters for humans to offering smart accommodations for people to work, live, and rest. Though climate change still presents one of the biggest challenges to all mankind, technological innovation and digitization are springing up to make future buildings more sustainable, resilient, hyper-efficient, and people-centric.

Mr. Kelvin Li, from Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, will shed light on making climate-positive impacts with IoT-based analytics and technologies, bringing in “the Buildings of the Future” around the world.

[SCC 2021] With the theme of “Smart Infrastructure”, the conference enables participants to review the utilization of cutting-edge smart applications in the GBA, and how the technologies shape our cities to be more connected and sustainable. It also provides a platform for professions to discuss the possibilities of incorporating the current technologies among the 9+2 cities, fostering the region’s synergic development instead of developing smart cities in silos, ultimately connecting the cities as a whole.

We will keep on posting an introduction series to SCC 2021, so please stay tuned!

🎉[FRIDAY SEMINAR SERIES] 🎉

Governments around the world have started the journey to establish smart cities for their countries for years. The Government of Hong Kong SAR is no exception in striving to build Hong Kong into a world-class smart city. Geospatial information is fundamental to deliver benefits to society and create sustainable values for a smart city.

Lands Department, as the land survey, mapping, and geospatial agency in Hong Kong, has recognized and understood the changes in the digital era, and has continuously learned from international counterparts and organizations, such as Ordnance Survey of UK, the Centre for Digital Built Britain and the Singapore Land Authority on the global trend of geospatial information framework development. To keep up with the pace of international development, Lands Department has taken the lead to contribute to the establishment of the geospatial information management framework of the city through the development of Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI), 3D Digital Map and BIM Data Repository.

In this presentation, Mr. Ben Chan, Deputy Director/Survey and Mapping, Mr. Ben Fan, Land Surveyor/3D Mapping Project, and Mr. Michael Lau, Land Surveyor/BIM of the Lands Department will share the initiatives and strategies to support Hong Kong’s geospatial information management framework, the latest development of CSDI and 3D Digital Map. Examples of CSDI, 3D digital map, and BIM development applications in other advanced economies and the insight from the BIM Data Repository Consultancy will also be shared.

Rapid urbanization has put a lot of strain on city resources. Cities need smart ways to effectively manage traffic congestion, public safety, sanitation, Water Quality, Sustainable energy, etc. Digitization and IoT can help deal with the impact of these population explosions.

This session provides insights from large scale rollout of such digital infrastructures, various use cases, and the benefits of data-driven city governance. The session also dwells upon the challenges in such rollouts and potential areas of future work that need to be debated within the technology community to enhance the impact of such investments.

Mr. Amitava Guha Thakurta and Mr. Harpreet Singh from Cisco will take us on a systematic journey to Digitization in cities.

[FRIDAY SEMINAR SERIES]

We welcome you all to our monthly seminar, and this time, the sharing would be on KOWLOON EAST!

The Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) was established in June 2012 to steer and facilitate the transformation of Kowloon East (KE) into another core business district (CBD2) to sustain Hong Kong’s economic development. Specifically, this would involve land use reviews, enhanced urban design, improved connectivity, and the associated infrastructure.

On smart city development in KE EKEO is carrying out Proof-of-Concept trials to examine the effectiveness of different innovative concepts and their implementation modes and strategies, and collaborating with different researchers and academic institutions, using KE as a testbed in investigating smart city development.

Ms. Joyce Tang, the Senior Works Consolidation Manager of EKEO, will share with us first-hand on the transformation journey from a government perspective.

THE TIME HAS COME! We welcome you all to attend GSCI's first Friday Seminar. In line with Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint, the theme this month is SMART LIVING.

The notion of smart city has been known to many of its technological “smartness”. While technology leap has opened up many possibilities that offers a promising vision to future cities, it is the humanistic spirit at vision to future cities, it is the humanistic spirit at its core, driven by the needs and living experience of the citizens, that defines and informs how our future cities look like.

Mr. MK Leung, Director of Sustainability at Ronald Lu & Partners, will provide us with a people-centric approach to the idea of smart city, where technology and urban design can work together for the betterment of urban life. He will offer some insights on how community engagement and public policy in data standardization can play a vital role in urban design and management for future cities.
