📍Matarkai: The Beating Heart of Region 1’s Economy.

🇬🇾It is evident that Matarkai, situated in the county of Essequibo, Region 1, Guyana, has been generating substantial revenue and producing high-quality gold since the days of old. This subdistrict has long served as a major economic engine for the region.

A clear sign of Matarkai’s profitability is the presence of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI)—the only commercial bank in Region 1—right here in our community. The bank's strategic location in Matarkai underscores the financial activity and value concentrated in this area.

So then, the question must be asked: why have we seen so little development?
Despite the wealth generated from mining and natural resources, the infrastructure and public services in Matarkai and surrounding areas remain limited. This imbalance raises serious concerns about how resources are managed and who truly benefits from the region’s success.

Matarkai continues to contribute to Guyana’s economy—but our people deserve to see that prosperity reflected in our roads, schools, healthcare, and opportunities,but instead we are expected to appreciative of crumbs.

ERC Condemns Vile Facebook Comments Made Against the Late Adrianna Younge and Her Family.
The Ethnic Relations Commission says it strongly condemns the reprehensible and deeply offensive comments made by Ms. Jennifer Ally on Facebook, directed at the late Adrianna Younge and her grieving family.
The Commission is appalled that, during a time of mourning, such vile and hateful expressions were publicly shared, further inflicting pain on a family already burdened by tragic loss.
These actions violate the basic standards of decency and mutual respect that are essential to maintaining harmony in our multi-ethnic society.
The ERC has officially opened a formal case into this matter and intends to engage Ms. Jennifer Ally. She is
being requested to report to the Commission to address the content and intent of her remarks.
The Commission reminds the public that freedom of expression, while protected, must be exercised responsibly.
The use of social media to spread hate, incite division, or cause psychological harm, especially in the context of bereavement, is unacceptable and contrary to the values enshrined in the Constitution of Guyana.
The ERC says it continues to monitor this matter and will act in accordance with its constitutional mandate to promote harmony, prevent ethnic or racial hostility, and encourage respectful public discourse.

The next time Dr Irfaan comes to matthews ridge and Matarkai people have to summon up the strength and voice to let him know he has implemented some exemplary initiatives,but it is some of the bench warmers that he have working here in Matthews Ridge and Matarkai making the government look really bad because of incompetence and lack of willingness to work for the people and to have their best interest at heart.
