Today, we continue our efforts to reduce preventable cancers.

The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc., in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, brought essential cancer screening and health services to communities through today’s outreach at Diamond Regional Hospital.

From screening to education, every interaction is a step toward earlier detection, better outcomes, and a healthier Guyana.

Thank you to our dedicated healthcare teams of partners ( Oxford Medical Centre and MOH, Diamond Regional Hospital), volunteers, members and everyone who showed up and trusted us with their care.

Prevention. Early Detection. Compassionate Care.

Did you know?

Bilateral Salpingectomy (BS) — the removal of both fallopian tubes — is increasingly recommended for women who have completed their families and are undergoing pelvic surgery or seeking permanent contraception.

Research suggests that many high-grade serous ovarian cancers, the most common and aggressive type of ovarian cancer, may actually begin in the fallopian tubes. Removing the tubes can significantly reduce the risk of developing ovarian cancer while preserving the ovaries and their hormonal function.

Talk to your healthcare provider about whether bilateral salpingectomy may be an option for you.

💜 Prevention is one of our strongest tools in the fight against ovarian cancer.

World Breastfeeding Week | August 1–7

Breastfeeding nourishes babies and supports mothers’ health. Research shows that breastfeeding can help reduce a woman’s risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer, making it a powerful tool for cancer prevention.

This World Breastfeeding Week, The Lotus Cancer Initiative encourages and celebrates breastfeeding as part of a healthier future for women and families.

Last Sunday, the The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc., in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Oxford Medical Centre, brought essential cancer prevention and screening services closer to the Enmore community.

A total of 40 persons benefited from the outreach, which provided Pap smears, HPV tests, colposcopy examinations with cervical biopsies, breast cancer and prostate cancer screening, breast health, HPV, cervical cancer , and prostate cancer education sessions.

The outreach reinforced the importance of early detection, timely follow-up, and community-based access to care. It also highlighted the value of partnerships in strengthening the continuum of cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, and patient support across Guyana.

We thank the Ministry of Health, Enmore Regional Hospital, Oxford Medical Centre, and all Lotus members and volunteers who made this outreach a success.
