Road Safety Enhancement in Our Communities 🚸

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, between 11:30 hrs and 12:00 hrs, ranks of the Guyana Police Force, in collaboration with members of Safe Lane Road Service Company, carried out road safety enhancement works at New Golden Grove Primary School and Coverden Gardens Primary School, East Bank Demerara.

These efforts focused on the painting of pedestrian crossings, improving visibility and safety for students, parents, and all road users in the area.

We’re pleased to report that the activity was executed smoothly, with no incidents, injuries, or disruptions.

The Guyana Police Force, alongside its partners, continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to road safety—especially when it comes to protecting our most vulnerable road users: our children.

A special thank you to Safe Lane Road Service Company for their invaluable support and dedication to making our roads safer. Your contribution truly makes a difference.

Let’s all do our part—slow down, stay alert, and respect pedestrian crossings. 🛑

🚧 Safety Alert: Navigating Construction Zones on the Linden Highway 🚧

Recently, Assistant Superintendent of Police Michael Ramdas highlighted the dangers of maintaining normal speed limits in construction zones, especially on the Linden Highway. Uneven surfaces like loose gravel and dug-up areas increase the risk of accidents. A few days later we saw an accident identical to his concern occur at the same Linden highway.

There are some precautions we can all take;

Drivers: Please exercise caution in construction areas by:
• Reducing Speed: Lower your speed to navigate safely through uneven terrains.
• Staying Alert: Be vigilant for sudden changes, equipment, and workers on-site.
• Following Signage: Adhere strictly to posted warnings and directions.
• Maintaining Safe Distance: Keep a safe following distance to allow ample reaction time.

Contractors: To enhance safety, consider implementing:
• Speed Bumps: Install them to naturally slow down traffic.
• Surface Maintenance: Ensure roads are compacted properly to minimize loose gravel.
• Clear Signage: Place visible hazard and directional signs for both drivers and pedestrians.
• Regular Inspections: Conduct frequent checks to maintain a safe environment.

As Guyana continues its development journey, construction is inevitable. Let’s collaborate to ensure these zones are navigated safely. Together, we can “DO THE RIGHT THING.” 🛑🛣️

🚦 Road Safety Matters! 🚦

Last night, the Chairman of the 4B Road Safety Council, Mr. Khishan Singh, joined a distinguished panel on NCN, alongside members of the Guyana Police Force—Superintendent Jagnanan, Inspector Bodelal, and Inspector Hiliman, as well as Mr. Peter Kathanan, Chairman of the Region 3 Road Safety Council.

We are truly grateful to NCN for this opportunity to engage the public in an important discussion on road safety.

During the one-hour program, we tackled key road safety issues, including:
✅ The current state of road safety in each division
✅ Safe road-use tips: proper time management, lane discipline, and blind spot awareness
✅ The dangers of motor lorry incidents and motorcycle risks—always wear a helmet!
✅ The risks of high-beam aftermarket LED lights that blind drivers at night
✅ Most importantly, the dangers of drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs or other substances

The panelists emphasized the real and tragic consequences of reckless driving. Road safety isn’t just about laws—it’s about protecting lives.

We thank all our viewers for tuning in and urge you to spread the message. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Work with our police officers—they are not here to attack you, but to protect you and your families.

🚔 Special thanks to NCN, the Guyana Police Force, and the National Road Safety Council for making this discussion possible.
