A huge thank you to United Nations Guyana for hosting last Friday's inclusive chess playoff!

Designed to promote rights, equal participation, and inclusion for persons with disabilities, this fun and inspiring event brought together UN staff, diplomatic community members, and enthusiastic students from the David Rose Special School, Diamond Special Needs, and St. Barnabas.

Congratulations to the prize winners of the recent chess tournament, jointly hosted by the United Nations Guyana, the Guyana Chess Federation, and the Deaf Association of Guyana. Across five thrilling rounds, participants enjoyed a fantastic mix of fierce competition and great sportsmanship!

Chess brought people together last Friday August 21st, 2026 in a powerful celebration of inclusion, rights, and participation for persons with disabilities. Hosted by the United Nations in Guyana alongside the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), the Deaf Association of Guyana, and key partners, the inclusive playoff featured students with disabilities playing together with UN staff and members of the diplomatic community.

Pegasus Weekly Chess League is Here!
Spearheaded by FIDE Master Anthony Drayton of Drayton’s chess club with crucial support from the Pegasus Chess Club and the Guyana Chess Federation, the Pegasus Weekly Chess League officially launched at the Exhibition Room, Atlantic Suites, last Monday, August 17th.

Designed as an alternative to full-weekend tournaments, players meet every Monday evening for one serious game, fitting competitive chess into busy work and school routines.
Highlights & What’s Ahead:
• Diverse Field: 7-round inaugural season featuring students, working professionals, and national players.
• League Website: Coming soon for live standings, player profiles, and stats.
• Custom Rating System: Internal rating updates to track your weekly progress.
• 2027 Vision: Expanding into structured team competitions to deepen club rivalries and year-round play.

PEGASUS WEEKLY CHESS LEAGUE SET TO LAUNCH TODAY!

One game. Every week. Real competition.

Presented by FM Anthony Drayton of Drayton’s chess club in partnership with the Pegasus Chess Club and the Guyana Chess Federation, the inaugural Pegasus Weekly Chess League kicks off on Monday, August 17, 2026!

Designed to foster consistent, high-level competition, Season 1 features an exclusive closed field of 12 players—paving the way for a long-term, recurring weekly league for junior, adult, and senior players across Guyana.

Venue: Oasis Building, Pegasus Hotel Guyana
Schedule: Weekly on Mondays, Aug 17 – Oct 19
Time Control: 60 minutes + 5-second increment per move
Format: 7-Round Invitational

Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) volunteers connected with Hon. Dr. Vindhya Persaud, ministry staff, and young participants for an engaging day of learning. This initiative introduced children to the game of chess while building essential life skills—like critical thinking, discipline, focus, and positive social interaction.
