On National Principal Day, we recognize the leaders who set the tone for what students experience—what they learn, how they’re supported, and whether they feel seen and valued.

The Delaware Department of Education’s strategic plan is grounded in a simple idea: Outcomes matter. And those outcomes take shape in buildings led by strong, student-centered principals.

Across our state, principals are building coherent systems of support for educators, using data as a flashlight to guide instruction, and creating school communities where every student has what they need to succeed.

To Delaware’s principals: Thank you for leading with clarity, courage, and a relentless focus on students.

Nearly 100 middle school girls joined 90+ STEM mentors and volunteers at Engineering Your Tomorrow 2026, hosted at Conrad Schools of Science—an inspiring day focused on creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving.

🏢 🌧️ During the hands-on “Storm Smart Streets” challenge, students stepped into the role of engineers and urban planners, designing model cities to better manage rainwater and reduce pollution runoff. With guidance from volunteer scientists and engineers, teams explored how thoughtful design and innovation can shape healthier, more sustainable communities.

💻 👩‍🏫 Students also participated in coding and conductance activities led by Kai Coders and the University of Delaware Materials Science & Engineering Department, while parents and chaperones attended workshops on supporting girls in STEM.

👏🏻✨ A huge thank you to our sponsors for making this experience possible: Croda, Incyte, DuPont, Qnity, Adesis, Inc., Artesian Water, FMC Ag US, Delaware Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education (DFSME), Agilent Technologies, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids, Delaware Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education (DFSME), ThermoFisher Scientific, and Four youth.

Together, we’re helping the next generation of innovators see themselves in STEM.
