Αντιδράσεις πανικού από την επίσκεψή μας στην Κουμπάρα
Η επίσκεψή μας στην γέφυρα της Κουμπάρας στις 15 Αυγούστου, όπου φωτογραφηθήκαμε μπροστά στη γέφυρα με ένα πανό, φαίνεται ότι προκάλεσε πανικό στον επενδυτή μας.
Η επίσκεψή μας ήταν απλή και σύντομη. Φτάσαμε στην περιοχή της γέφυρας με τα αυτοκίνητά μας. Είμασταν έξι μέλη του σωματείου. Περπατήσαμε στην παραλία για να βγάλουμε την φωτογραφία που φαίνεται σε προηγούμενη ανάρτηση. Πέντε από εμάς ήταν κάτω από τη γέφυρα κρατώντας το πανό, και ο έκτος οδήγησε το αυτοκίνητό του πάνω στη γέφυρα, για να είναι πίσω από εμάς στη φωτογραφία. Βγάλαμε τη φωτογραφία και επιστρέψαμε στα αυτοκίνητά μας για να φύγουμε. Η όλη υπόθεση κράτησε 5-10 λεπτά, χωρίς να κάνουμε οποιαδήποτε φασαρία ή να ενοχλήσουμε κανέναν.
Φεύγοντας μας πλησίασε ένας υπάλληλος του παρακείμενου εστιατορίου Erego. Μας συνεχάρη για τη δράση μας και μας προσκάλεσε για ένα δωρεάν ποτό στο Erego. Βρήκαμε περίεργα αυτά που μας έλεγε, και επειδή δεν είχαμε χρόνο τον ευχαριστήσαμε ευγενικά και μπήκαμε στα αυτοκίνητά μας για να φύγουμε. Στον δρόμο για την επιστροφή είδαμε ένα αυτοκίνητο της αστυνομίας να κατευθύνεται προς την περιοχή που είμασταν. Οπότε η πρόσκληση στο Erego ίσως να μην ήταν και τόσο καλοπροαίρετη. Φυσικά δεν είχαμε κάνει κάτι παράνομο καθώς (α) η παραλία είναι δημόσια και, (β) όπως οι εταιρείες έχουν αναφέρει εμφατικά σε επιστολές τους προς τις δημόσιες υπηρεσίες για να γλιτώσουν την έκδοση πρωτοκόλλου κατεδάφισης για τη γέφυρα (την οποία δεν γλίτωσαν τελικά), η γέφυρα είναι κοινόχρηστη.
Οι εταιρείες έδωσαν συνέχεια στο συμβάν με ένα κατευθυνόμενο δημοσίευμα στον Τύπο. Η ψηφιακή εφημερίδα Newsbeast δημοσίευσε ανυπόγραφο άρθρο στις 16 Αυγούστου με τίτλο «Αναστάτωση στην παραλία της Κουμπάρας στην Ίο». Το άρθρο είναι γεμάτο με ψέματα τόσο χονδροειδή, που είναι για γέλια. Στοχεύει στον προσβολή του σωματείου μας, χωρίς επιτυχία όμως όπως φαίνεται από τα σχόλια των αναγνωστών. Σταχυολογούμε μερικά από τα ψέματα στο άρθρο, με σχόλιά μας.
Newsbeast: «Ένα περιστατικό που διατάραξε τη γαλήνη ενός από τα πιο δημοφιλή νησιά των Κυκλάδων, την Ίο, εν μέσω τουριστικής αιχμής, και μάλιστα την ημέρα του Δεκαπενταύγουστου, φέρνει στο φως καταγγελία που έφτασε στο Newsbeast.»
Save Ios: H καταγγελία είναι ανώνυμη. Το πως η σύντομη και αθόρυβη επίσκεψή μας διατάραξε τη «γαλήνη» από τη δυνατή μουσική του Erego και από την ακόμα δυνατότερη μουσική του γειτονικού κέντρου κοινών συμφερόντων Pathos είναι ένα μυστήριο.
Newsbeast: «Έφτασαν με ένα βανάκι “ντυμένο” με το σήμα του σωματείου “Οικολογική Συμμαχία” και κάποια ιδιωτικά αυτοκίνητα με ταχύτητα και με ένα άγχος. Ένα άγχος να αναστατώσουν μια ολόκληρη παραλία. Το βανάκι, συγκεκριμένα, έκλεισε τον δρόμο που υπάρχει η μικρή γέφυρα. Κανένας δεν μπορούσε να περάσει. Κανένας τουρίστας δεν μπορούσε να ξεναγηθεί. Δεν μπορούσες καν να μετακινηθείς. Από την ένταση, σερβιτόροι και πελάτες πανικοβλήθηκαν. Άρχισαν να βλέπουν κόσμο να βγαίνει μαυροφορεμένος. Προσπαθούσαν να ξεδιπλώσουν κάτι πανό. Ο κόσμος αγχώθηκε και ρωτούσε: “Τι συμβαίνει; Κάτι περίεργο γίνεται;”.»
Save Ios: Κανένας τουρίστας δεν ενδιαφέρεται να ξεναγηθεί στην κακάσχημη γέφυρα, και ζήτημα είναι αν 1-2 άνθρωποι την διασχίζουν κάθε 15 λεπτά για να πάνε μέχρι το τέλος της παραλίας (αντί να πάνε απο τα βραχάκια που ήταν εκεί πριν κατασκευαστεί η γέφυρα). Επομένως τα 2-3 λεπτά που το βανάκι ήταν πάνω στην γέφυρα δεν δημιούργησε κανένα συνωστισμό. Οι πελάτες του Erego ούτε κάν που κατάλαβαν τι έγινε καθώς η επίσκεψή μας ήταν σύντομη χωρίς φασαρία. Κανένας δεν πανικοβλήθηκε εκτός μάλλον από τον επενδυτή μας που δεν θέλει τα πρόστιμα εκατομμυρίων που έχει λάβει και οι αποφάσεις για τις κατεδαφίσεις να λάβουν περαιτέρω δημοσιότητα.
Newsbeast: Ήρθαν γύρω στα 15 άτομα να κάνουν το κομμάτι τους σε μια ημέρα όπου το νησί περιμένει να δουλέψει. Οι δεκάδες επισκέπτες, εγχώριοι και ξένοι τουρίστες, που ήταν στην παραλία και τα μαγαζιά αναστατώθηκαν. Χάλασαν το κέφι των ανθρώπων.
Save Ios: Η σύντομη και αθόρυβη επίσκεψη έξι μελών μας για μια φωτογράφιση 5-10 λεπτών στη γέφυρα μετατράπηκε σε καταδρομική επιχείρηση 15 μαυροφορεμένων ατόμων, με σκοπό την τρομοκράτηση των δεκάδων επισκεπτών της περιοχής.
Newsbeast: Κατά τη γνώμη μου (σσ. μιλά ο ανώνυμος καταγγέλων), στόχος τους (σσ. του Save Ios) είναι να γυρίσουν την Ίο 100 χρόνια πίσω. Πριν δημιουργηθούν επιχειρήσεις στο συγκεκριμένο σημείο, ήταν απλά ένα… σκοτάδι. Αναβαθμίστηκε η περιοχή, βρήκε δουλειά η τοπική κοινωνία και έρχεται νέο χρήμα στο νησί. Η Ίος έχει αποκτήσει μια νέα εικόνα τα τελευταία χρόνια και κάποιους τους ενοχλεί αυτό. Όχι όμως την πλειοψηφία της τοπικής κοινωνίας, γιατί επαναλαμβάνω, εγώ δεν είδα σήμερα κάποιον ντόπιο να διαμαρτύρεται.
Save Ios: Εδώ επαναλαμβάνεται το παραμύθι ότι ο γνωστός επενδυτής έφερε την ανάπτυξη και τον πολιτισμό στην Ίο, και ότι η τοπική κοινωνία πρέπει να του χρωστά ευγνωμοσύνη. Ο επενδυτής έχει καταστρέψει εμβληματικά τοπία του νησιού, και αυτό έχει επιβεβαιωθεί με τη βούλα του νόμου πλέον, με τα πρόστιμα των εκατομμυρίων Ευρώ, τις αποφάσεις για τις κατεδαφίσεις, και τις ποινές φυλάκισης. Όσο για την ευγνωμοσύνη που θα πρέπει να του χρωστά η τοπική κοινωνία, υπάρχουν πολλές ενδείξεις για το αντίθετο.
Θα αναφέρουμε την αρνητική και σχεδόν ομόφωνη γνωμοδότηση του Δημοτικού Συμβουλίου για την επένδυση στην Κουμπάρα.
Τα σχόλια κάτω από το κατευθυνόμενο άρθρο του Newsbeastκαταδεικνύουν ότι πολλοί αναγνώστες γνωρίζουν την πραγματικότητα. Ένα καλό και χαριτωμένο παράδειγμα είναι το σχόλιο «Η περιγραφή μου έκοψε την ανάσα... περίμενα να δω ενόπλους να ξεπηδάνε και να παίρνουν αιχμαλώτους τουρίστες...».
Οι εταιρείες πιστεύουν, κατά πάγια τακτική τους, ότι με κατευθυνόμενα άρθρα θα μπορέσουν να αποκρύψουν την αλήθεια και να κάνουν το μαύρο άσπρο. Έχουν δημοσιεύσειπλήθος άρθρων, σχεδόν πανομοιότυπων μεταξύ τους, σε Ελληνικά και ξένα μέσα για το πόσο περιβαλλοντικά πρωτοπόρες είναι, πόσο όμορφα είναι τα ξενοδοχεία τους, κλπ.
Με το πέρασμα του χρόνου, τα πρόστιμα και τις ποινές, ανακαλύπτεται πόσο γελοία τα άρθρα αυτά είναι. Το ίδιο ισχύει φυσικά και για το άρθρο του Newsbeast.

Reactions of Panic to Our Visit to Koumbara
Our visit to the Koumbara bridge on August 15, where we took a photograph in front of the bridge holding a banner, appears to have caused panic among our investor.
Our visit was simple and brief. We arrived in the area of the bridge in our cars. There were six members of our association. We walked along the beach to take the photograph shown in a previous post. Five of us stood underneath the bridge holding the banner, while the sixth drove his car onto the bridge so that it would be behind us in the photograph. We took the photograph and returned to our cars to leave. The whole thing lasted 5–10 minutes, without making any noise or disturbing anyone.
As we were leaving, an employee of the nearby Eregorestaurant approached us. He congratulated us on our action and invited us for a free drink at Erego. We found what he was telling us rather strange, and since we did not have time, we politely thanked him and got into our cars to leave. On the way back, we saw a police car heading toward the area where we had been. So perhaps the invitation to Erego was not quite as well-intentioned as it appeared. Naturally, we had done nothing illegal, since (a) the beach is public and (b), as the companies themselves have emphatically stated in letters to public authorities in an attempt to avoid the issuance of a demolition order for the bridge—which they ultimately failed to avoid—the bridge is a common-use facility.
The companies followed up on the incident with a planted story in the press. The digital newspaper Newsbeast published an unsigned article on August 16 titled “Disturbance at Koumbara Beach in Ios.” The article is full of lies so blatant that they are laughable. It aims to discredit our association, though apparently without success, judging from the readers’ comments. We highlight some of the lies in the article, together with our comments.
Newsbeast: “An incident that disturbed the tranquility of one of the most popular islands in the Cyclades, Ios, in the middle of the peak tourist season—and on the day of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, no less—has brought to light a complaint that reached Newsbeast.”
Save Ios: The complaint is anonymous. How our brief and quiet visit could have disturbed the “tranquility” amid the loud music coming from Erego and the even louder music from the neighboring venue with common interests, Pathos, is a mystery.
Newsbeast: “They arrived in a van ‘dressed’ with the insignia of the ‘Ecological Alliance’ association and in several private cars, driving fast and appearing anxious. An anxiety to disturb an entire beach. The van, specifically, blocked the road where the small bridge is located. No one could get through. No tourist could take a tour. You couldn’t even move. Because of the tension, waiters and customers panicked. They began seeing people dressed in black coming out. They were trying to unfurl some banners. People became anxious and asked: ‘What is happening? Is something strange going on?’”
Save Ios: No tourist is interested in touring the ugly bridge, and at most one or two people cross it every 15 minutes to reach the end of the beach (instead of going over the rocks that were there before the bridge was built). Therefore, the 2–3 minutes that the van was on the bridge did not create any congestion whatsoever. The customers at Erego did not even realize what had happened, since our visit was brief and quiet. No one panicked—except, apparently, our investor, who does not want the multimillion-euro fines he has received and the demolition orders to receive any further publicity.
Newsbeast: “Around 15 people came to do their thing on a day when the island expects to be busy. The dozens of visitors, domestic and foreign tourists, who were on the beach and in the businesses were disturbed. They spoiled people’s mood.”
Save Ios: Our brief and quiet visit by six members for a 5–10-minute photo shoot at the bridge was transformed into a commando-style operation involving 15 people dressed in black, supposedly with the aim of terrorizing the dozens of visitors in the area.
Newsbeast: “In my opinion (editor’s note: the anonymous complainant is speaking), their (editor’s note: Save Ios’s) goal is to take Ios 100 years back. Before businesses were created at this particular location, it was simply… darkness. The area was upgraded, the local community found employment, and new money is coming to the island. Ios has acquired a new image in recent years, and some people are bothered by this. Not, however, the majority of the local community, because, I repeat, I did not see a single local person protesting today.”
Save Ios: Here we see the repeated fairy tale that the well-known investor brought development and culture to Ios, and that the local community should be grateful to him. The investor has destroyed some of the island’s most iconic landscapes, and this has now been confirmed by law, through multimillion-euro fines, demolition orders, and prison sentences. As for the gratitude the local community is supposedly expected to feel toward him, there are many indications to the contrary. We will mention the negative and almost unanimous opinion issued by the Municipal Council regarding the investment at Koumbara.
The comments beneath the planted Newsbeast article demonstrate that many readers know the reality. A good and amusing example is the comment: “The description took my breath away... I was expecting to see armed men jumping out and taking tourists hostage...”
The companies apparently believe, as is their established practice, that through planted articles they can conceal the truth and turn black into white. They have published a multitude of articles, almost identical to one another, in Greek and foreign media about how environmentally pioneering they are, how beautiful their hotels are, etc.
As time passes, and the fines and penalties accumulate, it becomes clear just how ridiculous these articles are. The same, of course, applies to the Newsbeast article.
