CHORUS is a non-profit organisation founded to build a bridge between arts, education and society.

CHORUS' mission is to promote humanitarian principles and values, to trigger public debate and mobilise the public on key social issues, to support the proactiveness of the Civil Society, as well as to foster respect for the rights of each individual through contemporary artistic creation, education and cultural activity in general. In order to design and implement its projects, it collaborates wi

th teams, organisations and individuals within and beyond Greece. The name of CHORUS comes from the chorus of the Ancient Greek drama. The chorus -the public opinion of the ancient city- plays a leading role in drama through speech, music and movement. It defines the play’s atmosphere, establishes its heroes and clarifies the poet’s message to the audience. The Greek chorus frames the action of every tragedy, comedy or satyr play. All the CHORUS members believe that socially active citizens can -and must- shape the future with their words, passion, and attitude towards life. CHORUS extends a welcoming hand to all those who are eager to take a stand and contribute to the realisation of their desires, deepest longings, and dreams through collective processes and with the assistance of an established entity.

Τι σημαίνει να ανασκάπτεις τη μνήμη ενός τόπου, και μαζί, τα ίχνη της ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας;

Η CHORUS συμμετέχει (για πρώτη φορά!) στο φετινό πρόγραμμα του θεσμού «Όλη η Ελλάδα Ένας Πολιτισμός 2026» με την 𝝖𝝢𝝖𝝨𝝟𝝖𝝫𝝜, μια site-specific σκηνική και εικαστική εμπειρία που παρουσιάζεται στις 8 και 9 Ιουλίου 2026 στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Αιγίου.

Η φετινή διοργάνωση, με αφετηρία τον άνθρωπο και το ερώτημα του τι σημαίνει να είναι κανείς πραγματικά άνθρωπος, ανοίγει έναν χώρο συνάντησης ανάμεσα στη σύγχρονη καλλιτεχνική δημιουργία, την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά και τους τόπους που φέρουν τη μνήμη της ιστορίας.

Η 𝝖𝝢𝝖𝝨𝝟𝝖𝝫𝝜 προσεγγίζει την ανασκαφική έρευνα όχι μόνο ως αρχαιολογική πράξη, αλλά ως μια χειρονομία επιστροφής: στα στρώματα της μνήμης, της ιστορίας και της ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας. Μέσα από τη διαδρομή, τη φωνή, την εικόνα και τον ήχο, το έργο συνομιλεί με τον χώρο, το σώμα και τα ίχνη που επιμένουν να υπάρχουν μέσα στον χρόνο.

What does it mean to excavate the memory of a place —and, with it, the traces of human experience?

CHORUS participates for the first time in this year’s programme of the institution “All of Greece One Culture 2026” with 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡, a site-specific performative and visual arts experience presented on 8 and 9 July 2026 at the Archaeological Museum of Aigion.

This year’s edition, taking the human being as its point of departure, and the question of what it means to be truly human, opens up a space of encounter between contemporary artistic creation, cultural heritage, and the places that carry the memory of history.

𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 approaches excavation not only as an archaeological act, but also as a gesture of return: to the layers of memory, history, and human experience. Through movement, voice, image, and sound, the work enters into dialogue with the site, the body, and the traces that continue to exist through time.

5 Ιουνίου — Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Περιβάλλοντος

Η φροντίδα για το περιβάλλον ξεκινά από τον τρόπο που κοιτάζουμε τον τόπο μας.
Όχι ως σκηνικό, αλλά ως κάτι ζωντανό, κοινό και εύθραυστο.

Είναι ο τόπος που ζούμε.
Η ακτή, η θάλασσα δίπλα στην πόλη, το τοπίο που αλλάζει γύρω μας.
Είναι και οι επιλογές μας, μικρές και μεγάλες, που αφήνουν ίχνος.

Για την CHORUS, ο τόπος δεν λειτουργεί ως φόντο.
Γίνεται αφετηρία για έρευνα, εμπειρία και διάλογο.

Το νιώσαμε στο metamorphoSEA, στην παραλιακή ζώνη της Ελευσίνας, όπου μια διαδρομή έγινε τρόπος να κοιτάξουμε ξανά τη σχέση μας με τη θάλασσα, την πόλη και τον κοινό μας χώρο.

Το συναντήσαμε και μέσα από το SEEDS, το ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα που άνοιξε μια πρακτική συζήτηση για το πώς σχεδιάζονται πολιτιστικές δράσεις με εργαλεία, μεθόδους και υλικά που μειώνουν το περιβαλλοντικό τους αποτύπωμα.

Σήμερα, ας ξαναδούμε τον τόπο μας όχι μόνο ως αυτό που μας περιβάλλει, αλλά ως αυτό που μας συνδέει.

5 June — World Environment Day

Caring for the environment begins with the way we look at our place.
Not as a backdrop, but as something living, shared and fragile.

It is the place where we live.
The coast, the sea next to the city, the landscape changing around us.
It is also our choices, small and large, that leave a trace.

For CHORUS, place does not function as a background.
It becomes a starting point for research, experience and dialogue.

We felt this through metamorphoSEA, in the coastal zone of Elefsina, where a route became a way to look again at our relationship with the sea, the city and our shared space.

We also encountered it through SEEDS, the European programme that opened up a practical conversation on how cultural actions can be designed with tools, methods and materials that reduce their environmental footprint.

Today, let us look again at our place not only as what surrounds us, but as what connects us.

Πριν ένα πολιτιστικό έργο πάρει μορφή, υπάρχει ένα στάδιο λιγότερο ορατό, αλλά καθοριστικό.

Είναι η στιγμή που οι άνθρωποι αρχίζουν να ακούν ο ένας τον άλλον.

Ένας καλλιτέχνης συναντά έναν ερευνητή. Ένας επιμελητής προσεγγίζει έναν τόπο που δεν έχει ακόμη κατανοήσει πλήρως. Μια κοινότητα μοιράζεται μνήμες, ερωτήματα ή αμφιβολίες.

Και κάπως έτσι, ένα πολιτιστικό έργο δεν ξεκινά πάντα από μια έτοιμη ιδέα.

Συχνά ξεκινά από την προσοχή.

Στο νέο μας blog γράφουμε για τη διατομεακή πολιτιστική πρακτική και για το γιατί χρειάζεται χρόνο, εμπιστοσύνη και κοινό έδαφος -ειδικά όταν αυτή συνδέεται με έναν τόπο.

Before a cultural project takes shape, there is a less visible but essential stage.

It is the moment when people begin to listen to one another.

An artist meets a researcher. A curator approaches a place they have not yet fully understood. A community shares memories, questions, or doubts.

And in this way, a cultural project does not always begin with a ready-made idea.

Often, it begins with attention.

In our new blog post, we write about interdisciplinary cultural practice and why it requires time, trust, and common ground -especially when the work is connected to a place.
Because a place is never simply a “location”.

It carries histories, relationships, silences, contradictions, and futures that are still being shaped.

Τι συμβαίνει ανάμεσα στα έργα;

Η CHORUS υπάρχει κάθε φορά που η τέχνη γίνεται αφορμή για συνάντηση.
Κάθε φορά που ένας τόπος αφηγείται ξανά την ιστορία του.
Κάθε φορά που μια κοινότητα βρίσκει χώρο να ακουστεί.

Ξεκινώντας τη δράση μας από την Ελευσίνα, μια πόλη που για πολλούς το βασικό της χαρακτηριστικό είναι απλώς ότι «είναι κοντά στην Αθήνα», ανοιγόμαστε στην Ευρώπη, και συνεχίζουμε να πιστεύουμε ότι η τέχνη δεν είναι πολυτέλεια.

Είναι τρόπος να θυμόμαστε.
Να ρωτάμε.
Να συνδεόμαστε.
Να φανταζόμαστε αλλιώς το μέλλον.

Έργα ολοκληρώνονται.
Άλλα γεννιούνται σιωπηλά, πριν πάρουν μορφή.
Ένα νέο έργο της CHORUS έρχεται σύντομα.

What happens between projects?

CHORUS comes to life every time art becomes a reason for encounter.
Every time a place tells its story again.
Every time a community finds space to be heard.

Having started our work in Eleusis, a city whose main characteristic, for many, is simply that “it is close to Athens”, we open ourselves to Europe, and continue to believe that art is not a luxury.

It is a way to remember.
To ask questions.
To connect.
To imagine the future differently.

Projects come to an end.
Others are born quietly, before taking shape.
A new CHORUS project is coming soon.

Artist of the Month — James Joyce (1882–1941)

Σήμερα θυμόμαστε τον James Joyce, τον Ιρλανδό συγγραφέα που έκανε κάτι απλό και ταυτόχρονα επαναστατικό: έδειξε ότι μια πόλη δεν είναι μόνο το σκηνικό της αφήγησης, αλλά μπορεί να γίνει αφήγηση η ίδια. Γεννήθηκε στο Δουβλίνο και, παρότι έζησε πολλά χρόνια μακριά του, επέστρεφε ξανά και ξανά εκεί με τη γραφή του. Όχι από νοσταλγία, αλλά γιατί εκεί δοκιμάζονται οι σχέσεις, οι ρόλοι, οι αντιφάσεις μιας κοινωνίας.

Το “Ulysses” («Οδυσσέας») είναι το πιο γνωστό του έργο. Εκτυλίσσεται μέσα σε μία μέρα, στο Δουβλίνο, και κυκλοφόρησε το 1922. Δεν διαβάζεται σαν «μια ιστορία που τελειώνει». Διαβάζεται σαν διαδρομή: ακολουθεί σκέψεις, φωνές, διαδρομές, καθημερινές κινήσεις. Έτσι, ο τόπος φαίνεται όπως είναι πραγματικά -σύνθετος, ζωντανός, γεμάτος αντιφάσεις.

Αυτή η ιδέα βρήκε συνέχεια και στο metamorphoSEA της CHORUS: μια τοποειδική περιπατητική εμπειρία στην παραλιακή ζώνη της Ελευσίνας, που πήρε ως αφετηρία το Ulysses και ειδικά το 14ο κεφάλαιό του, όπου ο Joyce συνομιλεί με το ομηρικό επεισόδιο της Θρινακίας και την ύβρη των συντρόφων του Οδυσσέα απέναντι στα βόδια του Ήλιου. Εκεί, η λογοτεχνία δεν μένει στη σελίδα. Γίνεται διαδρομή, εμπειρία και ένας τρόπος να ξαναδούμε έναν τόπο και όσα κουβαλά.

Η δύναμη της τέχνης, όπως τη βλέπουμε στον Joyce, δεν βρίσκεται στην ένταση αλλά στη μετατόπιση: στον τρόπο που μας μαθαίνει να κοιτάμε αλλιώς την πόλη, τη μνήμη, τις διαδρομές και τις ζωές που διασταυρώνονται γύρω μας.

Η τοποειδική παράσταση metamorphoSEA, που παρουσιάστηκε από την CHORUS, εντάσσεται στο ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα Creative Europe, ως μέρος του διεθνούς πολιτιστικού εγχειρήματος Ulysses European Odyssey (UEO) και στο καλλιτεχνικό πρόγραμμα της 2023 Ελευσίς – Πολιτιστική Πρωτεύουσα της Ευρώπης. Το UEO είναι μια σύγχρονη Οδύσσεια σε 18 ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις, που σκοπό έχει την παραγωγή καλλιτεχνικών παρεμβάσεων στον δημόσιο χώρο, εμπνευσμένων από τα 18 επεισόδια του εμβληματικού μυθιστορήματος «Οδυσσέας» του Τζέιμς Τζόις, και εστιάζει σε σύγχρονα κοινωνικά και πολιτιστικά ζητήματα.

Artist of the Month — James Joyce (1882–1941)

Today we remember James Joyce, the Irish writer who did something simple and at the same time revolutionary: he showed that a city is not only the setting of a narrative, but can become a narrative itself. He was born in Dublin and, although he lived for many years away from it, he returned to it again and again through his writing. Not out of nostalgia, but because it is there that the relationships, the roles, and the contradictions of a society are tested.

Ulysses is his best-known work. It unfolds within a single day, in Dublin, and was published in 1922. It is not read like “a story that ends.” It is read like a route: it follows thoughts, voices, routes, everyday movements. In this way, place appears as it truly is -complex, alive, full of contradictions.

This idea found a continuation in CHORUS’s metamorphoSEA as well: a site-specific walking experience in the coastal zone of Elefsina, which took as its point of departure Ulysses and especially its 14th chapter, where Joyce enters into dialogue with the Homeric episode of Thrinakia and the hubris of Odysseus’s companions towards the cattle of the Sun. There, literature does not remain on the page. It becomes a route, an experience, and a way of seeing a place and all that it carries anew.

The power of art, as we see it in Joyce, lies not in intensity but in displacement: in the way it teaches us to look differently at the city, memory, the routes, and the lives that intersect around us.

The site-specific performance MetamorphoSEA, presented by CHORUS, is part of the European programme Creative Europe, within the international cultural initiative Ulysses European Odyssey (UEO) and the artistic programme of 2023 Eleusis – European Capital of Culture. UEO is a contemporary Odyssey across 18 European cities, aiming to produce artistic interventions in public space, inspired by the 18 episodes of James Joyce’s emblematic novel Ulysses, and focusing on contemporary social and cultural issues.

29 Απριλίου - Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Χορού

Ο χορός δεν είναι μόνο κίνηση.
Είναι τρόπος να υπάρχουμε μαζί: να συγχρονιζόμαστε, να κρατάμε ρυθμό, να κουβαλάμε μνήμη μέσα στο σώμα. Είναι μια γλώσσα χωρίς λόγια και, συχνά, ο πιο άμεσος τρόπος να εκφραστούν όσα δε χωρούν εύκολα αλλού.

Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι η CHORUS πήρε το όνομά της από τον Χορό του αρχαίου ελληνικού δράματος: όχι ως σκηνικό στοιχείο, αλλά ως φωνή της κοινότητας, ως συλλογικό σώμα που σχολιάζει, θυμάται, συμμετέχει. Αυτή η αντίληψη της τέχνης ως κοινής εμπειρίας βρίσκεται στον πυρήνα της πρακτικής μας.

Το νιώσαμε έντονα και σε δράσεις όπως η τοποειδική performance As A Shadow As A Dream στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλονίκης, όπου ο χορός των γυναικών και η κίνηση του κοινού μέσα στον χώρο μετέτρεψαν το μουσείο σε τόπο παρουσίας, μνήμης και διαλόγου.

Σήμερα, γιορτάζουμε τον χορό ως μια ζωντανή γλώσσα του σώματος -μια δύναμη που κρατά μνήμες, δημιουργεί δεσμούς και ανοίγει χώρους συνάντησης.

29 April - International Dance Day

Dance is not only movement.
It is a way of existing together: of synchronizing, of keeping rhythm, of carrying memory within the body. It is a language without words and, often, the most direct way for things to be expressed that do not easily fit elsewhere.

It is no coincidence that CHORUS took its name from the Chorus of ancient Greek drama: not as a scenic element, but as the voice of the community, as a collective body that comments, remembers, participates. This understanding of art as a shared experience lies at the core of our practice.

We felt this strongly as well in actions such as the site-specific performance As A Shadow As A Dream at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, where the chorus of women and the movement of the audience through the space transformed the museum into a place of presence, memory, and dialogue.

Today, we celebrate dance as a living language of the body -a force that holds memories, creates bonds, and opens spaces of encounter.

Τι είναι τελικά ένας δημόσιος χώρος;

Είναι μόνο ένα σημείο πάνω στον χάρτη;

Ή είναι οι ιστορίες, τα σώματα, οι μνήμες και οι συναντήσεις που τον ενεργοποιούν ξανά και ξανά;

Στην CHORUS μας απασχολεί η σχέση της τέχνης με τον τόπο όχι ως φόντο, αλλά ως ζωντανό πεδίο εμπειρίας, διαλόγου και συλλογικής παρουσίας. Γιατί κάθε τόπος μπορεί να γίνει κάτι περισσότερο από μια τοποθεσία: μπορεί να γίνει αφορμή για να θυμηθούμε, να αισθανθούμε, να συνδεθούμε και να ξανασκεφτούμε το παρόν.

Σε μια εποχή όπου όλα μοιάζουν να περνούν γρήγορα, μας ενδιαφέρουν εκείνες οι πολιτιστικές πρακτικές που δημιουργούν χώρο για στάση, προσοχή και ουσιαστική συνάντηση.

What, ultimately, is a public space?

Is it merely a point on the map?

Or is it the stories, bodies, memories, and encounters that activate it again and again?

Με αφορμή την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Τέχνης, σκεφτόμαστε την τέχνη όπως τη συναντάμε μέσα από τη διαδρομή της CHORUS: ως έναν τρόπο να ερχόμαστε πιο κοντά, να μοιραζόμαστε εμπειρίες, μνήμες και ερωτήματα.

Η CHORUS γεννήθηκε από την ανάγκη να υπάρξουν χώροι όπου η τέχνη συναντά τη ζωή, τον τόπο, την κοινότητα και την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά με έναν ουσιαστικό και ζωντανό τρόπο.

Μέσα σε αυτή τη διαδρομή, μας έχουν επηρεάσει προσεγγίσεις που δεν βλέπουν την τέχνη μόνο ως αισθητική ή πολιτιστική παραγωγή, αλλά ως μια δύναμη που μπορεί να δημιουργεί τους όρους για να υπάρξουν φαντασία, συμμετοχή, συλλογική σκέψη και δράση -μια οπτική με την οποία συνδέεται και η σκέψη του Charles Landry, όπως αποτυπώνεται στη φράση:

«Οι πόλεις οφείλουν να δημιουργούν τις συνθήκες μέσα στις οποίες οι άνθρωποι μπορούν να σκέφτονται, να σχεδιάζουν και να δρουν με φαντασία».

Για εμάς, η τέχνη ήταν και παραμένει ένας τρόπος να είμαστε μαζί.

On World Art Day, we reflect on art as we have encountered it ourselves through the journey of CHORUS: as a way of coming closer, of sharing experiences, memories, and questions.

CHORUS was born from the need for spaces where art meets life, place, community, and cultural heritage in a meaningful and living way.

Along this journey, we have been influenced by approaches that do not see art only as aesthetic or cultural production, but as a force that can create the conditions for imagination, participation, collective thought, and action to emerge — a perspective that also connects with the thought of Charles Landry, as reflected in the phrase:

“Cities need to create the conditions for people to think, plan and act with imagination".

For us, art has always been, and remains, a way of being together.
