Cats with complex health issues and disabilities often have horrible prospects - who will take them on? Who will nurse them? Where will they go in the long term if they are unadoptable?

This sweet girl had surgery funded by volunteers, but no place to go after. So Maria stepped in, as she has done literally hundreds of times. She never stops to consider if they are adoptable - are they friendly, young and healthy? Usually it’s the opposite - they have issues that mean they may well never find a home and will require lots of money and care in the meantime.

Xenia survived as a stray with a non-functioning and rotten leg. She couldn’t bear weight and would have been in agony when Maria found her.

Thankfully the infection had not caused her to be very unwell and she lived long enough to be rescued by Maria. Her rotten leg was then amputated and she made a fantastic recovery. Xenia now has a wonderful life as a tripod cat at Maria’s Cathouse.

Please help Maria care for over 200 disabled cats at her shelter in Crete. I say shelter, but it mostly functions as a lifetime sanctuary for special needs cats who have very little (usually no) chance of being adopted because of multiple medical issues, and all the extra care and expenses this involves. After all, it’s hard enough to get friendly, healthy cats adopted in Crete!

Please donate to help Maria cover food and vet bills for the rescue - she really is struggling terribly at the moment and it’s really hard to see how stressful this situation this is for such a caring, hardworking and selfless person like her.

Thank you so much for donating to help the rescue stay afloat. The financial situation for the shelter is absolutely dire at the moment, and your help means the world. Without your incredible support vulnerable cats and kittens simply cannot be helped by Maria because every new cat means more food needed and increased vet bills.

This baby is being cared for by Maria after he was found unwell and in an unsafe situation in a local village. Maria has tried to find the mother and siblings without success, because it’s always preferable for the family to stay together, especially when a baby is still reliant on its mother’s milk.

He has some wounds on his back paws that Maria is treating with antiobiotic spray and he is being doted on by the amazing Patouses - a long term cat resident at Maria’s Cathouse and the most caring cat.

Kitten season is well and truly upon Crete and with the busy tourist season, there will be many cases of cats in need. Your help is so greatly appreciate and so vital in ensuring that Maria can continue to help cats.
