Bringing the story of the first Greek Australian lady to an English-speaking audience!
Unity in Philia is proud to announce an exciting partnership with author Fotini Papadimitriou to translate and publish the English edition of «Η Πρώτη Έποικος» The First Greek Woman Migrant to Australia, bringing this remarkable story to a wider international audience by mid-2027.
First published in Greece in April 2025 and well received, this extraordinary historical account shares the story of Ekaterini Plessou-Crummer, who arrived in Australia in 1835 at just 26 years of age.
Her journey is one of courage, resilience and determination, and represents a powerful connection between Greece and Australia, celebrating the migrant stories that have shaped our shared history.
The vision to bring Ekaterini’s story to readers around the world, including the Greek diaspora, is proudly supported by George Mastrocostas, Honorary Consul-General of Greece in Queensland, Penny Sahinis and their families, whose passion and commitment have helped make this important project possible.
Dr Vassilios Adrahtas, Co-Founder Unity in Philia, extends his sincere gratitude to Her Excellency Alison Duncan, Australian Ambassador to Greece, for her stewardship and support in ensuring this remarkable story is recognised, celebrated and shared.
Dr Adrahtas stated “We look forward to revealing more as we continue this journey to bring Ekaterini’s legacy to new audiences across the world”
