A special event on the analysis of the connection between animal abuse and violence in a broader sense, animal welfare with philanthropy, and social responsibility by chapters of AHEPA Hellas "Solon" "Falireas" "Piraeus"
ATHENS, May 23, 2026 – A unique informative event was co-organized by Chapters HJ-04 "Solon", HJ-09 "Themistocles", and HJ-38 "Phalereus" of AHEPA HELLAS (District 25).
The analysis, hosted by the Municipality of Ilioupoli at the Museum of National Resistance, focused on the topic:
"The connection between crime and animal abuse: Legal framework, limits, and perspectives of animal welfare action".
The speakers skillfully analyzed how aggressive behavior toward animals is directly linked to violence among humans, often serving as a first indication of broader delinquency within society and the family.
At the same time, the modern legal framework (Law 4830/2021) and the tools now available to Municipalities and citizens, such as the National Digital Registry, were analyzed.
The panel of speakers included Ms. Marsa Dimopoulou (former Special Secretary for the Protection of Companion Animals of the Ministry of Interior), Mr. Nikos Chrysoveridis (President of the Veterinary Association of Attica & Islands), and Ms. Antonia Dimou (Deputy Program Secretary of New Democracy).
Special reference was also made to the limits of action for animal welfare organizations, which must be based on cooperation with authorities and knowledge of the law.
The event concluded with brief honorary awards presented to individuals and organizations for their contributions:
Marsa Dimopoulou (former Special Secretary of the Ministry of Interior): For her contribution to the national policy for the protection of companion animals.
Cleo Loulakaki (Advisor to the Mayor): For her initiatives in improving the living conditions of stray animals.
Mary Miliaresi (Deputy Mayor of Glyfada): For her significant work in the field of stray animal protection.
Benjamin Arbalas (former President of the Panhellenic Veterinary Association): For his long-standing contribution to the veterinary sector.
Liberty Dogs (Giannis Kondraros): For training guide dogs for visually impaired individuals.
Nikos Chrysoveridis (President of the Veterinary Association of Attica & Islands): For his overall contribution to strengthening the sector.
Last but not least Father P. Papaioannou: For his philanthropic work as a veterinarian and missionary in Madagascar, who spoke about the value of selfless offering and humility.
The event closed by the President of the Chapter HJ-04 Solon Alexandros Dimas Alexandros Dimas passed the message, charity, animal protection, civilization are conmected. The fact that animal abusers, are a threat to our society.
