We’re so proud that we made it up to the mountains for another summer! Once again, we’re here trying to escape the heat while continuing to work & make improvements to the shelter so we can be better prepared for the coming winter.

This summer, we found ourselves with a very unexpected little guest: baby Vandal. Taking care of such a tiny baby has been incredibly demanding and exhausting, but we’re doing everything we can to help him grow strong. And of course, he has already started showing us his personality and begun to get a little spoiled. 🙄

Also, we discovered that our solar panels were actually powerful enough to support an air conditioner in the caravan, so we finally installed one! Our seniors, Alfi & Zilia, couldn’t cope with the heat, with Zilia developing instability and dizziness!

Last week we welcomed Martina, a volunteer from Spain, who stayed with us for a few days and gave us a much-needed hand with organising the place and taking care of the animals. And, of course, Kiara, one of our most adoptable dogs, managed to gain yet another admirer! We really hope that one of those admirers will eventually become her forever family.

We’ve also been busy preparing our new merch and we're hoping to have everything available at our next event in September 13!

Our newest resident, Maya, is doing much better & Kali is also about to finish her first treatment for ehrlichiosis and dirofilariasis.

And then there’s our little Vandal, who gave us quite a scare! We had to take him to the vet twice as we thought he might have had typhus! He developed some digestive problems and he seems to be doing much better now.

Next week, we need to start the animals’ yearly vaccinations & blood tests. Unfortunately, we cannot afford all the costs, as it has already been 2 months since our last event.

If you would like to help us you can support us by donating or even participating at our upcoming event!

Two days ago, we saw a facebook post about this little girl looking for a foster home. She had been left again at the place where she was originally found, after an abscess on her face had been surgically removed. The infection had also affected her ear.

She had been taken to a vet by a visitor in Nafpaktos, who performed the surgery. Apparently, the vet and the municipality decided that she was well enough to be returned to where she was found, as long as she was eating.

She was left in the yard of a 90-year-old woman and every four days, the vet and volunteers would visit to clean her wound.

We found it very difficult to understand how a cat in this condition could be returned there. She has a wound that needs daily care, she is extremely weak, underweight and not sterilised.

So without hesitation, when we saw the post, we decided to welcome her into our shelter.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to raise enough funds to create the dedicated medical space we had hoped for. So, for now, the best we can offer her is a safe, protected crate covered with mosquito netting to keep the flies away from her wound, placed in a cool, shaded area where she can rest and recover.

The vet has already done a FELV/FIV test and thankfully she tested negative. We will also run a FIP test and full blood work to get a clearer picture of her overall health.

For now, we're giving her something she desperately needs: time, care, food and love.

And she is already showing us just how sweet she is.... She is incredibly affectionate, cuddly and gentle.
Once she is strong and healthy enough, she will be looking for her forever family.

We hope that after everything she has been through, this beautiful girl will finally find the safe and loving home she deserves.

Welcome to the shelter, little one. Your new chapter starts here. 🖤💚

☀️ AUGUST — Open dates for helping at the shelter! ☀️

It’s August and many people are on holiday, but our commitment to the animals doesn’t stop in summer. If anything, the need for help is even greater. The intense heat makes it especially important to be there for the animals and keep the shelter running smoothly.

If you’d like to spend some of your August helping with the daily work at the shelter, we have a few dates available:

📅 13–17 August
📅 19–23 August
📅 26–31 August

You don’t need any special skills or experience, but you do need to be responsible, reliable and committed to the animals.

Our daily routine includes cleaning, feeding and caring for the animals, watering plants, cooking and small maintenance tasks. During the summer heat, we avoid larger projects and focus on keeping everything clean, safe and comfortable for the animals.

Working hours:
7:00–10:00
19:00–21:00

Accommodation: Our guest caravan or tents

📍 Location: Fokida, around 50 minutes from Nafpaktos and just 15 minutes from the nearest beach.

If you’re looking for a different way to spend part of your summer, feel free to join us or ask for further info 🐰

The dogs from the Efpalio municipal shelter have been safely returned to the shelter.

A huge thank you to everyone who reached out with messages of support and to those who were ready to travel from Patras, Athens and even Thessaloniki to help. Your kindness means so much!

If you have or want to donate any leashes, collars, harnesses or crates/boxes , you can send them to us via BOX NOW or courier. It looks like we'll need plenty of supplies this summer and every donation makes a difference.

The dogs are also available for adoption. If you've been thinking about welcoming a dog into your family, please get in touch, we'd be happy to send you photos and more information.

Every single one of them deserves a loving home, a safe place and the chance to spend the rest of their lives surrounded by care after everything they've been through.

A few days ago,we discovered that Kali,a stray who was probably abandoned by hunters in a nearby village, had given birth.

Sadly, 4 of her puppies had already passed away & only one was still alive.

We immediately brought Kali & her puppy to the shelter. The first night,we kept them separated while monitoring Kali & bottle-feeding the puppy every 2 hours, helping it urinate, defecate & keeping it warm with a hot water bottle.

The following day, our vet confirmed that Kali had plenty of milk. X-rays & an ultrasound showed that no puppies were left inside her and she received parasite treatment & deworming.

Unfortunately, the next day she developed a severe flystrike, with maggots around her v***a. We brought her back to the vet after removing as many as we could ourselves. She received treatment to eliminate the larvae, antibiotics, blood tests & a rapid test. The results showed that she is positive for heartworm & ehrlichiosis.

Kali also has very little maternal instinct, so we check on them around the clock to make sure the puppy stays warm, nurses regularly & receives additional bottle feeds.

This emergency made us postpone the arrival of 2 new rescue dogs. One of them, Olie, has also heartworm and needs to start treatment, but she can't until she arrives at the shelter. We are now trying to create safe spaces where the new dogs can settle in and meet the rest of the pack without stress or fights.

We need your help to continue helping them all.
If you can volunteer for a few days, we'd love your help with socializing the dogs, creating shaded areas & building new safe spaces.

If you'd like to support our work with a donation and help us give these dogs the care they deserve, you can do so via:
