The security guard pictured is Amin Abdullah, who was tragically shot and Martyred on May 18, 2026, while protecting worshippers at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

The Attack: Two heavily armed teenagers (ages 17 and 19) carrying weapons scrawled with hate rhetoric opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego, the county's largest mosque.

The Heroic Actions: Amin Abdullah confronted the gunmen at the entrance. By standing in the line of fire and stopping the attackers from progressing deeper into the facility, he effectively protected the people inside.

Who Was Saved: The mosque grounds house the Bright Horizon Academy (Al Rashid School), a school filled with children ranging from kindergarten to third grade. Because of Abdullah's quick actions, the shooters never made it inside, and all of the school children and staff were kept entirely safe.

The Outcome: Abdullah and two other staff members were Martyred outside the mosque. The two teenage attackers fled a short distance away and died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.
