GASAN, in partnership with Sunu Reew Medical Mission and University of the Gambia Medical Students Association - Unigamsa, successfully organized an impactful Autism Awareness Educational Session! The event brought together different participants and parents to foster understanding, promote inclusion, and share valuable insights about autism. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions, learned about early intervention, and explored ways to support individuals with autism in our community. We are proud of this collaborative effort to raise awareness and create a more inclusive environment for everyone. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to making this event a great success!

Autism is not a limitation — it is a different way of experiencing, understanding, and interacting with the world, deserving of acceptance, support, and inclusion. 💙
And GASAN advocates for the rights, dignity, and full inclusion of persons with autism in every aspect of society.

Advocates in The Gambia have renewed calls to end discrimination against autistic children, rejecting harmful beliefs that they are “evil” or possessed, during a high-level engagement organised by the Gambia Autism Support and Advocacy Network on April 26th.

Speakers warned that while awareness is growing, major gaps remain in funding, teacher training, specialised healthcare, and policy implementation, with officials confirming there is no dedicated national budget line for autism.

Experts stressed that inclusion must begin in classrooms and communities, backed by stronger partnerships and full enforcement of existing laws.
