NOT EVERY PAIN IS VISIBLE

Sometimes the strongest smiles hide the deepest struggles.
A friend who withdraws…
A sibling who stays quiet…
A colleague who loses interest in life…

These are not signs of “madness” — they may be signs of someone silently struggling.

Mental health challenges can affect ANYONE.
Let’s stop the labels.
Let’s stop the judgment.
Let’s start showing care.

Observe. Listen. Support. Reach out.

One kind word can make a difference.
One action can save a life.

Mental Health Matters. Every Mind Counts

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

Sometimes, people around us are silently fighting battles we cannot see.

A friend may suddenly become quiet.
A family member may withdraw from everyone.
Someone may be smiling outside but breaking down inside.

And many times, they are not looking for someone to judge them…
They are looking for someone to listen.

Mental Health First Aid is not about being a doctor or therapist.

It is about:
🤝 Listening without judgment
🤝 Showing care and compassion
🤝 Supporting someone in distress
🤝 Encouraging them to seek help
🤝 Staying connected and reminding them they are not alone

One conversation can bring hope.
One act of kindness can change a life.
One person who cares can make all the difference.

We should all believe that mental health support starts with humanity, understanding, and compassion.

Let us stop the stigma and start supporting one another.
Because every mind matters.

MENTAL HEALTH IS HEALTH

Too many people continue to suffer in silence because of stigma, discrimination, and hurtful words.

Words like:
“Amul solo.”
“He is mad.”
“She is crazy.”

These words do not heal. They hurt.

Mental health challenges are real, and anyone can struggle with— your brother, your sister, your friend, or even you.

we should try to be in a society where:
✅ No one should be ashamed to speak.
✅ No one should be left behind.
✅ Everyone deserves dignity, care, support, and understanding.

Let us stop the stigma and start the healing.
One kind word can save a life.

Choose kindness.
Choose understanding.
Choose to stand for mental health.

*Courtesy Call Update| AMDG and National Youth Council*

Today, the Association for the Mentally Disabled Gambia (AMDG) paid a successful courtesy call to the National Youth Council (NYC) as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships and expand our advocacy work across the country.

The delegation had the honor of meeting with the Executive Director, Alhagie Jarju, and Ebrima Ndow, who warmly received the team.

The meeting focused on exploring areas of collaboration, particularly in nationwide advocacy, youth engagement, and mental health awareness. AMDG highlighted the importance of *leveraging NYC’s regional structures* to enhance outreach and ensure that mental health conversations reach communities across The Gambia.

Both parties expressed strong interest in building a strategic partnership, with discussions centered around joint programs, capacity building, and inclusive initiatives that will empower young people and support persons living with mental disabilities.

This engagement marks another important step forward in AMDG’s mission to promote dignity, inclusion, and well-being for all.

We appreciate the warm reception and look forward to a fruitful collaboration.

Thank you all

AUTISM AWARENESS | AMDG

AMDG proudly joins the global community in raising awareness and promoting understanding of Autism.
Autism is not a *disease/Illness* — *it is a different way of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world* . Every individual on the spectrum is unique, with their own strengths, abilities, and potential.

We believe in a society where everyone is respected, included, and given equal opportunities to thrive.
Let us all:
Promote understanding
Show kindness and patience
Support families and caregivers
Speak up against stigma and discrimination

Together, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate Gambia where everyone belongs.

Association for the Mentally Disabled Gambia (AMDG) wishes all Christians a deeply reflective and peaceful Lenten season.

Lent is more than just a time of sacrifice; it is a journey of the heart toward greater empathy and love. As we walk this path of prayer and fasting, let us remember that the greatest gift we can offer is our presence and support to those who often feel forgotten.

In these forty days, may we find the grace to be 'our brother’s keeper,' advocating for the dignity and well-being of those living with mental health challenges. May your Lenten journey be filled with hope, healing, and spiritual renewal.
