Earlier today, we had the privilege of conducting a health screening and sensitization outreach in Berending Village, Kombo South District, at the invitation of the Berending Health Group.
The outreach focused primarily on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes, two major public health challenges that often remain undetected until complications arise. Through screening and health education, community members were empowered with knowledge about prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices.
One particularly encouraging observation was the relatively low number of participants with elevated blood pressure readings compared to many other communities we have visited. While a single outreach cannot establish causation, this finding may reflect the benefits of Berending’s active lifestyle and potentially healthier dietary habits. It serves as a reminder of the critical role that physical activity and nutrition play in reducing the burden of NCDs.
We were also delighted by the impressive turnout from the community. As has been the case in many of our previous outreaches, women constituted the vast majority of attendees, highlighting their continued commitment to preventive healthcare. We encourage greater participation from men in future screenings, as early detection and prevention are essential for everyone.
Our sincere appreciation goes to Gunjur Project for once again sponsoring this initiative, to the wonderful people of Berending for their warm hospitality, and to our dedicated volunteers whose selfless service made the outreach a success.
Together, we continue to build healthier communities
one village at a time.
