FONI KANSALA DISTRICT YOUTH COMMITTEE ATTENDED A TWO-DAY EVENT ON COMMUNITY POLICING FORUM HELD AT BWIAM

The Foni Kansala District Youth Committee, in collaboration with The National Council for Civil Education (NCCE) with the support from the Government of Japan, yesterday, the 10th of June, 2026, concluded a two-day dialogue centred on Community Policing at Foni Ding Ding Federation Lodge, Bwiam Village.

The engagement which lasted for the 9th and 10th of June, 2026, brought together various stakeholders including, youth leaders, alkalos, religious leaders, persons with disabilities, police officers, women groups and influential persons.

A key session of the dialogue focused on gender-sensitive policing (inclusion of women, youth, persons with disabilities etc), early warning and community safety mechanisms,
drafting community safety action plans, media and communication strategies for community policing, and sustainability efforts. Discussions highlighted the need for communities to initiate community policing in collaboration with the police in order to prevent the high rates of crimes within our communities. The need for security services to be accessible, responsive, and inclusive, ensuring that all members of the society can voluntarily participate effectively in promoting peace and security.

During the group presentations, the participants explored practical approaches to help strengthen the inclusion of women, youth and persons with disabilities in the decision-making process when setting up community policing in our various communities. The discussions underscored the importance of effective policing built on fairness, dignity, confidentiality, access to justice, and respect for human rights.

A major highlight of the dialogue was the group work exercise, where participants developed community action points geared at strengthening police-community relations, improving trust and accountability, enhancing early warning signs, and the promotion of inclusivity in our decision making processes when setting up community policing in our communities.
