It’s CBT Week!

Since Monday, our G4 Trainees have officially kicked off their Community-Based Training (CBT), with half of the team in Gieniere and the other half in Kaiaf LRR region.

Over the next two weeks, our trainees will move beyond the classroom to put the theories and approaches they’ve learned into practice. Living and integrating with their host families, they’re getting a real-life simulation of what the next 10 months of service will look like ,from economic initiatives , to community mapping and meetings , to identifying needs and co-creating community-led projects.

This is CBT.

And while the practical learning continues in the communities, training sessions will also continue to be delivered, giving our trainees the best of both worlds: learning and doing.

G4 PST WEEK 2 DONE !!

It’s been an eventful two weeks for our newest set of changemakers! From getting introduced to CorpsAfrica’s approaches, understanding volunteer competencies and roles, to Monitoring & Evaluation, public speaking, practical sessions and group work, and a keen focus on youth Intentionality and employment creation for rural youth and women, our G4 trainees are getting a real feel for the CorpsAfrica school and culture. And if there’s one thing that particularly stands out about this cohort, it’s the ENERGY!

The enthusiasm, curiosity, engagement, teamwork and willingness to learn have been evident throughout, and that’s exactly what we love to see! At CorpsAfrica, it’s not just about learning the theory. It’s about learning, doing, reflecting and growing together. And now, it’s time to take all that learning to the community!

For Week 3, our trainees will head into two different communities for the Community-Based Training phase, where they’ll put what they’ve learned over the past two weeks into practice and experience a real-life simulation of what their upcoming 10-month service will look and feel like.

From the classroom to the community. From theory to practice. From trainees to changemakers.

CORPSAFRICA G3 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE AS FACILITATORS IN THE RECENT CRR AND LRR YOUTH CONVERGENCE 2026.

One thing about our Volunteers, they don’t just transfer skills and create impact in the communities they serve, they carry that impact beyond their communities, reaching young people and contributing to the nation at large.

Recently, some of our CRR and LRR Volunteers participated in the CRR and LRR Regional Youth Convergences, respectively, as facilitators representing CorpsAfrica, sharing valuable skills and knowledge with young people participating in the programmes.

In the CRR, Volunteers Therese and Ludimilda served as entrepreneurship facilitators, conducting practical training sessions for 50 participants in food processing and soap making. Through hands-on activities and theoretical instruction, they guided participants through different aspects of entrepreneurship, helping deepen their understanding while equipping them with practical, marketable skills.

Meanwhile, in the LRR Regional Youth Convergence, Volunteers Amadou Njuke , Mariama Sonko, Binta Ceesay and Fatou Jobarteh, alongside G2 alumna Mariama Cham, facilitated sessions on sexual and reproductive health, food processing, dukula groundnut cake production, and pepper sauce making.

We are incredibly proud of our G3 Volunteers and how far they continue to go to share the knowledge, skills and experiences they have gained through their service. Their willingness to give back, empower others and amplify impact beyond their communities is a true reflection of what service is all about.

Community Tree Planting Exercise in seno Bajonki LRR

As part of community engagement and environmental conservation efforts emphasizing CorpsAfrica Gambia’s green initiative and climate resilience , Volunteer ludimilda conducted a tree planting exercise in Seno Bajonki community. Through the support of Ousainou Gambia, who donated 25 seedlings of guava and orange trees, the seedlings were distributed and planted in compounds across the community.

The activity provided an opportunity to engage community members in environmental conservation while promoting the importance of tree planting, food production, and a greener community.

Following the community activity, she proceeded to the NBR Youth Convergence, participating in a tree planting exercise with young people. Two trees were planted in honor of the youth gathering, symbolizing the commitment of young people to environmental sustainability and collective community action.

Climate action through exercises like tree planting is both an individual and national task and we love to see our amazing Volunteers taking up the course and pushing the agenda !

G4 Pre-Service Training begins!

This week, we officially kick started Pre-Service Training (PST) for our Cohort 4 Volunteers in Wassu, Central River Region.
PST marks an important milestone in preparing our Volunteers for a year of community-led development across The Gambia.

This cohort , we have recruited 48 change makers and over the next six weeks, they will be immersed in CorpsAfrica’s core approaches as trainees . Through interactive sessions and practical learning, they will explore Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), Human-Centered Design (HCD), and community led development approaches including economic building initiative skills ). These models will equip them to listen to communities, identify local assets, and co-create sustainable solutions alongside community members.

From Tears to Belonging: How Burong Changed Binta Ceesay’s View of Rural Life

Gambiaj.com - (KIANG BURONG, The Gambia) - When Binta Ceesay first arrived in Burong, a quiet Mandinka village in Kiang West, Lower River Region, she broke down in tears. The young educator and youth leader had left the familiarity of urban life to serve as a CorpsAfrica volunteer. But her first night in the village was marked by fear, loneliness and uncertainty.

Surrounded by strangers and far from home, she wondered whether she had made the right decision.

“I cried my eyes out,” she recalled. “I was asking myself if I could really thrive here, so far from everything safe.”

More Trees, more Planting , Greener resilient future!

This rainy season, CorpsAfrica/Gambia Cohort 3 Volunteers are turning their communities greener and taking action against climate change. In Chissay Village, NBR, Exchange Volunteers Edwin Tinega and Benedicte Marie Louise Aly Sen joined the Niumi Eco Network and community members to plant 317 trees, including Moringa, Melina, Leucaena, Cashew, Mahogany, Slices and Lime.

In Foni Bondali, Volunteers Fanta Minteh and Regobell Manga, in collaboration with the Forestry Department, are working towards planting 75 trees across schools, roadsides and ChildFund-supported sites. In Sinchu Musa, URR, Isatou Sowe and her CorpsAfrica Junior Club of 50 students planted 75 seedlings, including Mango, Cashew and Moringa, while Kaddijatou D. Bah joined tree-planting efforts in Sarre Nyanga, CRR. In Karantaba, NBR, Bakary Susso facilitated a community tree-planting exercise to strengthen environmental protection and climate resilience, while in Masembeh, LRR, Naffisatou kalley joined community members to plant 85 trees, including 38 Baobabs and Melina.

Through these initiatives, our Volunteers are planting more than trees, they are planting hope, resilience and a legacy of shade for generations to come. Because the best time to plant a tree was yesterday; the next best time is today.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the forestry department, the communities, and other implementing partners and G2 Alumni elliyasu that collaborated with our Volunteers to carry out these activities.

Through our Green Initiative, beyond celebrating our Volunteers as environmental champions, we urge everyone to play their part. Wherever you are and however you can, take charge, protect our environment, and make a conscious effort to care for the planet today, for ourselves and for generations to come.

CorpsAfrica Regional Alumni Conference & Strategic Session in senegal

Themed on Strengthening Regional Ties, Employability, and Entrepreneurship
The Conference will be taking place on Saturday, August 22, 2026 | Thiès, Senegal
With Participants featuring 40 Alumni (30 Senegal, 10 Gambia), G10 Senegal Volunteers, National Directorate & Global support office (GSO).

As part of the rollout of the new Global Alumni Strategy (GSO) led by the CorpsAfrica Directorate, this Regional Conference in Thiès aims to bring together alumni from previous volunteer cohorts in Senegal and The Gambia. The event will not only focus on the socio-professional integration of program graduates but also organize a direct strategic consultation meeting with the Alumni Manager to discuss new objectives for local chapters and establish the Alumni Club's roadmap.

The objectives are:
- Regional Integration: Foster synergies and collaboration opportunities along the Senegal-Gambia corridor.
- Strategic Deployment: Present support mechanisms from the GSO office (seed funding, scholarships, mentorship).
- Employability & Business: Facilitate practical workshops on the job market, CV optimization, personal branding, and cross-border entrepreneurship.
- Strategic Discussion with Abderrahim: Engage directly with the Alumni Club to consult on their real challenges and build post-service monitoring mechanisms.

Today, 10 of our Alumni from G1, 2 and 3 have departed to grace this event . We wish them a successful conference.
