Still taking it all in… 💜🥹
Yesterday, the 30th of March 2026, history was made in The Gambia — a moment that carries not just national significance, but global potential.
At the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, people from all walks of life— students, healthcare professionals, scientists, clinicians, and members of the community, gathered for the very first commemoration of World Human Genetics Day. And truly, it was something powerful to witness.
The conversations around Genetics and its impact on our everyday lives- from Sickle Cell Anemia to other inherited conditions, reminded us that this is something that concerns all of us. Awareness is growing, voices are rising, and change is beginning.
I’m grateful I was given the opportunity to share my story not just mine, but the voices of many living with this reality.
A special thank you to the Human Genetics Awareness Human Genetics Awareness Association for pioneering this vision. What started here has the potential to grow beyond borders and we are hopeful that in years to come, this day will be recognized globally by bodies like the World Health Organization and other international institutions.
From The Gambia to the world… this is only the beginning. ✨
