The GYECLN president, Abdou Komma had the honor of addressing one of today’s most pressing challenges technology—during an international dialogue organized by the Mmabatho Foundation for Women’s Empowerment.
While technology holds immense power to transform lives, it also brings significant downsides. The rapid rise of AI, in particular, is leading many young people to rely more on digital tools than on their own independent thinking.

As the founder of Gambia Youth Empowerment and Civic Leadership Network and as a network, we view this as a serious challenge—one we must confront with intention and responsibility. The Gambia Youth Empowerment and Civic Leadership Network is honored to announce that our President and Founder, Abdou Komma, has been invited as a guest speaker at an upcoming international dialogue organized by the Mamabatho Foundation for Women’s Development.

The theme, “Youth at the Edge of 2030: Reimagining Freedom, Economy, and Peace in the World,” sits at the very heart of our mission. This global platform provides a vital opportunity to align our local efforts in civic leadership and environmental science with international priorities, specifically:
• Strengthening youth participation in global decision-making.
• Navigating economic and political shifts affecting the next generation.
• Advancing youth-led initiatives in peacebuilding and governance.

Subject: Inspiring Young Minds Through Innovation ,Leadership and Science

We were honored to host an inspiring and impactful engagement with the young learners of the African Child Empowerment Foundation (21st Century Students).
During this visit, Abdou, Founder and President of the Gambia Youth Empowerment and Civic Leadership Network, engaged the students in meaningful discussions on critical thinking, innovation, and the importance of science in today’s world. His interaction reflected the very essence of our educational model—empowering young minds to think beyond limits and embrace creativity.

The approach to learning of the school is intentionally designed to move beyond traditional blackboards and textbooks. Through video-based instruction and real-life experiences, our students are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world. Their ability to adapt quickly and engage deeply is a testament to the strength of this forward-thinking system.
As an author, biologist, environmental scientist, and poet, Abdou encouraged the students to explore new possibilities and remain curious about the world around them.

His words served as both motivation and a powerful reminder that education is a tool for transformation.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Mick, the founder, for pioneering this innovative educational approach, and to Abdou for being a positive role model and inspiring the next generation of leaders and thinkers.
