MJFC Marks Universal Children’s Day

Press Release :
22nd November 2025

The Malick Jallow Foundation for Children (MJFC) joins civil society and indeed the rest of the world in marking Universal Children’s Day, established in 1954 and celebrated on November 20th to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare. November 20th is also the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child as well as the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the child which was ratified by the Gambia on the 8th of August 1990.

MJFC acknowledges the fundamental progress made by The Gambia in strengthening its legal framework for the protection and promotion of the rights of children culminating in several legislations with the children’s act of 2005 as its centerpiece.

The MJFC seizes this opportunity to call for the promulgation of a national policy on the participation of children in political activities. This is important in setting boundaries for political parties on the utilization of children to further political ends especially during the often tenacious process of election campaigns. This is particularly vital in ensuring that children are protected from harm and inappropriate exposure in the anticipated 2026 election process.

Barrister Malick H.B. Jallow Esq.

MJFC Board holds meeting to finalize fundraising strategy

On 24th August 2025, the board members of the MJFC held a meeting presided over by the Founder/President Lawyer Malick H.B Jallow to dilate, discuss and brainstorm on the draft fundraising strategy for the Foundation.

The fundraising strategy is important in building the credibility of the foundation and also with respect to earning the confidence and trust of the partners, donors and collaborators who will support the foundation.

It is expected that the fundraising strategy will be finalised in due course and would be a fundamental tool in guiding the work of the foundation and ensuring that it is effective, transparent but also accountable to the individuals and institutions who support our work.
