Investing in education, leadership, and empowerment is investing in the future of The Gambia.

In July 2019, 100 young leaders gathered in Kololi for a transformative weeklong Emerging Rural Leaders' Summit. The summit, organized by the IVLP Alumni Association The Gambia and funded by the U.S. Department of State, aimed to equip participants with vital leadership and empowerment skills through a series of intensive modules.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Chief of Mission Shelly Seaver shared an inspiring message:
"By taking advantage of this opportunity, you are investing in your future. The alumni who organized this program are investing their hard work in your future. The United States is investing in your potential. This is the start of a lifetime of learning, stepping up to lead, and solving problems. It is hard work, but most worthwhile endeavors are. Take the time to hone your analytic skills and creativity."

This summit marked not only a week of growth and learning, but also a step toward a stronger, more empowered Gambia.

The Emerging Rural Leadership Program was design to close the gap between urban and students in rural areas in the Gambia to equip them with the required knowledge to strive to the highest status quo in our country.

It was also important to look for the right partners who have a strong interest in making this happen.

We are grateful to the U.S. Embassy Banjul for their endless support and long ally in making the African Child fulfill their passion and dreams.
