Global Platform The Gambia was proud to participate in the Movement Building Training 2.0, organized by Activista The Gambia under the theme “Reflection, Strategizing and Action” 21st to 24th August, 2026.

The training brought together civil society organizations and movement leaders to reflect, strengthen collective capacity, build solidarity and strategize for stronger movements.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect and contribute to building a more resilient, inclusive and organized youth movement in The Gambia.

Yesterday, our Global Platform The Gambia UTG Chapter, in collaboration with YANGG, took action at Westfield through a community cleaning exercise focused on clearing water drainage systems and cleaning the road side.

It was demanding work, but our young people showed up, got their hands dirty and delivered an impressive job.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the executives of the UTG Chapter and YANGG for their leadership, commitment and dedication to community action.

Well done, team. The work continues.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

Young people across the world may live in different realities, but our aspirations remain connected. We want dignity, justice, decent opportunities, peace, equality and a future where our voices matter.

At Global Platform The Gambia, we see this every day through our work with young people across communities on climate justice, civic participation, women’s rights, peacebuilding, leadership and community action.

Our realities may be different, but our struggles connect us. *And our greatest power lies in organizing, solidarity and unity.*

When young people organize, we build power. When we stand together, we amplify our voices. And when we act collectively, we can challenge systems and create the change we want to see.

This International Youth Day, let us remember that young people are not just the future. We are the present, and we are powerful when we organize because that’s when we build collective power.

Tomorrow, on International Youth Day, our Program Assistant, Fatoumata Betts who is currently representing us at the Global Platforms Gathering in Bangladesh, will join a panel with other country representatives from across the world on youth leadership, power and collective action.

From The Gambia to the world, we continue to push for a future where young people don’t just participate but we lead, influence and shape decisions.

Yesterday, the Global Platform Banjul Chapter, in collaboration with SAASSDA and the National Youth Parliament, took action in Banjul to clear public spaces and drainage channels, helping create pathways for rainwater to flow and reducing the risk of flooding.

This is what youth-led climate action looks like: not waiting for someone else to act, but stepping into our communities and doing the work.

Thank you the the Banjul chapter for such an initiative.

The Global Platform LRR Chapter, in partnership with the Tahir Civic and Peace Club, successfully conducted a tree-planting exercise in the Lower River Region, planting 50+ trees at public institutions, residences, offices, new households and neighbouring communities.

From the Fire and Rescue Services, Soma District Hospital, Police, PIU, Riders for Health, Governor’s Office, Judiciary, Maritime Office, SSHFC, and surrounding settlements, young people and community members came together to take action for a greener, healthier and more resilient LRR.

Thank you GP LRR for contributing to building climate resilience, strengthening community ownership, and investing in generations yet to come.
Plant a tree. Protect it. Grow the future.

On Thursday, our Ghetto Youth Engagements under the Youth Promotion Initiative (YPI) took us to Brikama Gidda, where we met young people in their “Campeh” (ghettos) to discuss peaceful elections, civic rights and responsibilities, and the power of their participation.

The impact is becoming visible: young people who are often pushed to the margins are becoming more informed, asking questions, challenging ideas, and recognizing their power to shape the political conversations that affect their lives.

We will keep showing up. We will keep listening. And we will keep taking civic education to where young people are not only where it is convenient to go.

This project is funded by United Nations Peacebuilding fund through ActionAid International The Gambia.
