WE ARE UNITED IN HUMANITY

18/05/2026

For 60 years, The Gambia Red Cross Society has been more than an organisation, it has been a hand to hold in times of pain, a source of hope in moments of despair, and a symbol of humanity for the people of The Gambia.

Since 1966, we have stood with communities through disasters, emergencies, health crises, and difficult times; driven by compassion, volunteerism, and the belief that humanity must always come first.

This October 2026, we proudly mark 60 years of humanitarian service.
60 years of compassion.
60 years of solidarity.
60 years of restoring hope and dignity.

Behind every response are stories of lives touched, families supported, communities strengthened, and volunteers who chose service above self.

As we begin the countdown to this historic milestone, we honour everyone who has walked this journey with us: volunteers, staff, partners, supporters, and the people we serve.

Together, we celebrate 60 years of humanity in action. And together, we continue forward with hope.

Banjul Red Cross Branch honour an extraordinary legacy of service and humanity.

Papa Ndow has dedicated an inspiring 56 years of humanitarian service to The Gambia Red Cross Society beginning his journey in 1968 and continuing to impact generations through First Aid, dissemination, leadership and community service.

His commitment to humanity has shaped countless lives and strengthened the Red Cross movement in The Gambia. Mr Ndow represents discipline and the true spirit of voluntary service.

As we reflect on his remarkable journey, we celebrate not just the years but the lives touched, the lessons shared and the legacy built. Thank you Mr Ndow for your sacrifice and lifelong commitment to humanity. Your legacy continues to inspire young volunteers and future humanitarians.

Banjul Red Cross Branch successfully commemorated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2026 through a memorable 3 day celebration held under this year’s global theme: “United in Humanity.”

The celebration brought together volunteers, elders, youth leaders and partners in promoting the values and humanitarian work of the Movement. Activities carried out during the celebration included a campfire session, march pass, intergenerational dialogue, football tournament, social activities and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening volunteerism and unity within the branch.

This celebration served as a reminder that the Red Cross Movement is built on compassion and collective action. It also highlighted the commitment of our volunteers who continue to dedicate their time and energy to serving humanity.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Branch Officer Musa Baldeh, Ebrima Burama Jammeh and all the volunteers who contributed to making this celebration a success.
