Speaking to an audience at the MUNG event at American Corner the IPRO of Gambia Police Force Mr Modou Musa Sisawo underscored the effects of "Kush" in our society. He gave staggering statistics on lives claimed by this dangerous drug.

The IPRO stressed the efforts the police are making to prevent and curb the trafficking of these drugs in the country via their strategic checkpoints and intelligence.

The spokesman of the police called for concerted efforts in the fight against the killer drug called Kush.

At the Model United Nations Gambia event at American Corner, Fajara, Mr Ousman Gaku, a senior Evaluation and Monitoring Officer at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assitance, Gambia Office spoke on the role of lawmakers in consolidating Democracy. Mr. Gaku outlines four critical roles of lawmakers ranging from oversight functions, law legislation, accountability and advocacy roles.

He emphasized the need for voters to elect qualified and competent members who understand the critical role of parliamentarians in a living democracy.

Speaking at the Model United Nations Gambia event at American Corner, Fajara, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Gambia's Information Minister highlighted the crucial role information plays in strengthening democracy and good governance. He pointed out that the government must give reliable, authentic and timely information to the citizenry for transparency and accountability purposes.

He equally enjoined citizens to participate and closely follow government activities to constructively critique the government and hold officials and institutions accountable for the greater good.

On June 29, 2024, Model United Nations Gambia organized a seminar at the American Corner in Fajara, focusing on key topics that are central to our society's stability, security, and progress. These topics included the issue of drugs (kush), the role of information in governance and democracy, and the importance of lawmakers in consolidating democracy.

The role of information in governance and democracy in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in the governance process and structures. Law enforcement agencies play a significant role in combating drug-related issues, and platforms like this seminar will help the police combat the impact of drugs (kush) in The Gambia. Additionally, lawmakers contribute immensely to strengthening democratic institutions — enacting laws that protect democratic institutions and promote good governance.

Special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, the Minister of Information; Modou Musa Sisawo, PRO of The Gambia Police Force, and Ousman Gaku, Int'l IDEA, for shedding light on these important topics.
